Btw, this is the first phone I own, that I have landscape mode on. It is way, way, way better. I save so much time on it, it's not even funny.

Noone says that portrait mode is a bad idea. We agree that it would be nice to have. Do we want portrait mode if we can have it? Sure, why not.

What some of us are arguing, is that it's more important to fix actually missing features and actual bugs that prevents people from doing things at all, instead of starting with convenience matters. It's a question of priorities.

On the N900 you cannot set up a repeating task in the calendar, if you want that task to happen every second tuesday. But you can send SMS. If you want to do it one handedly, it's awkward.

An awkward implementation is not a more grave concern than no implementation at all. So, in the next firmware upgrade I hope they have spent time on adding features that actually are blocking usage, instead of adding alternative ways of doing something that already exists.

In the same logic, I'd rather they implemented turn by turn voice navigation than make a better portrait mode for Ovi Maps. I know I can't have everything, so I hope they make some good priorities.

That's not true. I was talking on Saturday to an LG phone owner (don't know the model) and she was making the exact same complaint. The phone has a qwerty slide in portrait mode, and no portrait mode virtual keyboard. The poor girl had to put her phone down and stop sending SMSs to attend to a customer.

I was - and promptly asked her what was the phone and did she like it. I wasn't in a raging hurry for my dog biscuits. She complained bitterly about the lack of portrait mode for SMS which meant she couldn't text and ring up the till at the same time (to be fair, she said she was texting her boss about her shifts). The phone had onscreen portrait mode for the phone app, but no t9 keyboard. Which sounded very familiar.

Ok! We know that there are more important things to fix, buuuuut... come on we have full portrait browser with the next FW and really someone think that have portrait SMS could be so difficult? Maybe couple of hours of work? We are speaking about SMS portrait only!!

I love landscape mode with HW keyboard, but send quickly SMS with one hand is a MUST!

If you can reword polls AFTER PEOPLE ANSWER THEM, that is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard of on this site, and that's going some!

Whoever did that hasn't got much understanding of the polling process and what it means.

And it leads to this: I disagree with my own poll response! I intended to say that it was obvious that there is not going to be portrait mode in the next release, NOT that I wanted or didn't want it. That is an entirely different question.

The reason this keeps popping up is that is is kind of nuts that basic portrait and texting (one hand) function was not in the device in the first place. I stopped using mine as as phone back in December, so no harm no foul for me Amazing device for me, but weak IMO as a smartphone (compared to my G1). G1 is my phone and N900 is everything else

nokias to lazy but i'd like on handed operation and this is not a tablet the screen it to small to be one its and unfinished phone spun as a tablet so don't even try it

To the OP's defence, I am not quite sure that it has been reworded, it may have been my initial understanding of it that tinted this observation. I'm not sure. To the site's defence, these polls are hardly ment to be statistically correct. Or you'd be recommended to make balanced seven choice polls
