All MeeGo compliant installs should have the /etc/meego-version file, this can be used to detect you're running on a MeeGo instance and also the version indicates the APIs you probably have available. Detecting whether you're on a Handset, Tablet or IVI is slightly more difficult, the only way I can think of is by checking for specific libraries.

Hey thanks man, and VERY fast answer. If I had a N900 I would gladly help out with MeeGo. You can still find used ones in Sweden but i think I'll wait for N950. Will see how long it takes for it to be released ...

BTW, when MeeGo switches to Systemd it will probably use the new generic standard file /etc/os-release. But that will be for MeeGo 1.3 I guess.

Do you mean the '-load' switch?
Can you be more specific, I have the image on the SD card now, but I'm not so keen on installing the uboot om my power kernel 46.
Do you really mean "flash the Kernel", or do you mean that the maemo flasher instructs the n900 to boot from the SD card "on the fly" so to speak?

Do you have a more detailed command line to demonstrate what you mean?

Just tried this image: mg-handset-armv7nhl-n900-de-acceptance-1.1.99.2.20110412.6.DE.2011-04-15.1

I really like the overall fludness of meego, really nice and smooth, makes me want to make sweet love with it

Any other images i should give a try?

Not at this point, MeeGo trunk is broken at the moment so DE daily images aren't working either. You can follow the testing reports here: http://qa-reports.meego.com/1.2/Hand...20Edition/N900. Once there is a working build, it will be tested, and you can see the results and go try yourself.

I guess this is what you are after:
http://wiki.meego.com/ARM/N900/Insta...kernel_on_N900

so '$ sudo flasher-3.5 -l -k <kernel> -b' will load you the kernel that boots MeeGo from SD card. After reboot, you're back in your regular configuration.
