So after doing a tracker reset, what is the way to restore (without resorting to a regular NokiaLink/Suite restore), say, SMS messages back? What does the reset do, does it remove some sort of a cache or completely removes the SMS database?

the whole database for sms and call logs is deleted...

hence why tracker-control -r is the ultimate last resort after you have backed up everything you need...

reflashed firmware, but gallery and music still can't fetch pictures and audio files - YEAAAAAAHH!! disaster disaster disaster disaster!!!!

Did you do a full rootfs+emmc flash?

Nope backup all your stuff and do a full flash...Sad but true...

found this: flasher -f -F fw.bin -F emmc.bin --flash-only=mmc to be for windows, do You know if it 'd be the same for OS X?

you need to have the emmc.bin file...when you download from navifirm the two biggest files are the rootfs.bin and emmc.bin...
