How did you get Profilematic to switch back to 3G or dual-mode (from 2G) after leaving idle mode?
(doesn't seem to be any obvious way to do that in Profilematic, short of setting up a custom rule)
I've set a rule to switch to 2G when the phone's idle for more than 1min, but obviously I dont want to stay in 2G when I'm no longer idle.

Make a new rule with:

-condition set to "time". Add all weekdays and 0am to 0am (24h)
-action set to "mobile network mode" and chose dual or 3G.

Make sure the "idle" rule is above the "time" rule.

But since you're in the same locale, I decided to try 3G again since you've reported no issues. I went a few hours last night (Profilematic switches to power saving overnight). Been up for a bit and 3G is still working.

We'll see.
Nope. Issue presented itself a few hours after this post.

Sigh.

I am still waiting on Nokia to call me back on a support request on the issue.
@nmd

Did you hear back from Nokia?

There is a selection under advanced settings for the access point, all the way at the end.
also for some reason there were two access points for my hidden wifi. so i also Deleted the second one.
I tried setting this (off & on) and could see no obvious changes...
The hidden WiFi still remained visible in my list of available networks.
Wasn't expecting it to resolve the issue, but it's weird in it's own right.

Thanks, did a slight refinement to this as suggested by ajalkane here.
Had this in place once upon a time, not sure why I removed it now

Note-to-self
Must re-read these reports, any related ones, & this thread:

https://harmattan-bugs.nokia.com/show_bug.cgi?id=770#c1
Plus remember these posts & check whether my symptoms are as bad as that, when the profilematic rules are disabled.
Once disabled, also try what I was originally going to (auto-proxy address supposedly didn't work for dannejanne, see 2nd last link).

FWIW my phone has changed its' settings on its' own for some reason but my connection is still ok.
My original fix was to set the proxy to automatic. Now it is set to no proxy. Auto retrieve IP and auto retrieve DNS are set to On.
My APN (Telstra Australia) was telstra.internet, now it is telstra.wap.
I doubt that is significant though and certainly not for anyone outside of Australia.
I've been told by Telstra that telstra.wap is now used for internet and MMS on 4G rather than have two separate APNs (telstra.mms). Perhaps an explanation even though I'm on 3G.

i can say the same as far as proxy, i got locked out twice since yesterday. Once on the freeway playing IP radio and once at work today, the spot where it happens most frequently.

jalyst, i think we are talking about something different, i have a hidden accees point at work for which i had two profiles, one hidden and one not hidden. I foundout i deleted the hidden one thats why the hidden wasnt checked in the profile that remained. Long story short i redid the access point for this router and at that time i got locked out of cell data again. I dont know what it is but it sure sucks. I have treated this phone very well, hard to imagine its a microfracture. It must be software.

Alright, I've been having some weird connectivity issue with my N9. I can associate with an AP using Settings, but opening any website with the browser sometimes just gets stuck on waiting infinitely.

I found that I can fix this by running "ping google.com" from the terminal, but that's a massive kludge. Anyone else have this problem? It's getting on my nerves, and is one of the reasons I have my N900 at bedside to browse the internet instead of my N9.

It must come down to you simply having decent reception wherever you're using it (I think the underlying issue's being triggered by poor/unreliable reception).
I & others with the same config. (inc. T$) still have issues, UNLESS we use Profilematic to switch to 2G & back to 3G, when going idle & then back to non-idle.

I'm talking about the Hidden WLAN that keeps popping up in the Internet connection dialogue,* alongside local WiFi AP's & my carrier's 3G internet.
If I go into Edit networks under Internet connection it's not there, not exactly sure what purpose it serves, perhaps just another local AP that doesn't broadcast SSID?

*which is straight under Settings.

I've had zeros issues like that when connecting to WiFi AP's so long as my signal's decent & not always dropping out.
The vast majority of users in this thread get the symptoms you describe ONLY when connecting to the net via 3G.

My device is usually ~30cm from the router. It's quite the problem, and I'm investigating why the packets just aren't being sent.

This has nothing to do with bad signal on my phone. My connection can get lost even though I have full bars shown. It never dies out on the countryside where my girlfriend lives where I have very bad signal Usually 1 or even 0 bars most of the time. But my connection never dies there. Only two 3G networks available there and no 2G network at all.

As soon as I get into the big city where the signal is great the problem starts. It's in areas with many 3G net id's where it hangs. It has noting to do with 2G as if I have my phone on only 3G it still happens. When I move around in a car in town or walking the connection drops very frequently while on 3G.

So it's something about 3G networks it can't handle. When there are a lot of network id's to connect too. Seems its got something to do with that.
