and here's the output from a good unit. You can see the mics at device 24:[0-0] and 25:[0-1]

0: [ 0] : control
16: [ 0- 0]: digital audio playback
17: [ 0- 1]: digital audio playback
24: [ 0- 0]: digital audio capture
25: [ 0- 1]: digital audio capture
33: : timer

If they do use the same path, it becomes obvious that it's just faulty hardware
EDIT: could people please start posting serial numbers?
Mr Grim I am inclined to agree with you, but no harm in looking at both. You can see from the /proc/asound/devices there appear to be two mic devices

Hi all,

I am no expert in linux but I checked the Summit device's log file it seems to me the log for audio driver is:
[ 2.940551] ASoC version 0.13.2
[ 2.954132] AIC3X Audio Codec 0.2
[ 2.956695] asoc: tlv320aic3x <-> omap-mcbsp-dai-0 mapping ok
[ 2.958221] asoc: Bluetooth codec <-> omap-mcbsp-dai-1 mapping ok
[ 3.010009] input: RX51 (tlv320aic3x) Jack as /class/input/input2
[ 3.034088] ALSA device list:
[ 3.034149] #0: RX51 (tlv320aic3x)

[ EDIT ] A quick google seems to suggest tlv320 is an audio codec.

Maybe someone can check the folder
[ 3.010009] input: RX51 (tlv320aic3x) Jack as /class/input/input2
and see what input2 points to.....

By the way the debounce clock message should not be something to worry about. If my guess right it's just a filter to filter out asynchronous signal on the MMC data bus. Maybe it's not needed so Nokia didn't use it.

Surely this is a device where draining the battery is inevitable from to time, probably when you're in the middle of an important call because it's not got that much battery life if you're out using it all day.

That's the opposite of what my first Nokia phone's manual said (also using an Li-ion battery). It advised fully charging and discharging for a couple of cycles at the beginning.

Have the battery designs changed to reverse this advice completely?

Also: You said if the battery is fully discharged, it will be impossible to charge it because the N900 cannot boot into charging mode. Where does "accidental discharge-till-it-turns-off" fit into this? Will that brick the device, or that an incomplete discharge which turns it off by hitting a threshold?
