Then you will invariably have no regrets if you're a open-source fanatic.

I got one of those portable 3G-GSM - WiFi hotspot gadgets

That also keeps the roaming charges down to just voice/sms.

My only regret about buying the n900 is discovering
the fact that it will still be another year or two
before anything appears to surpass it in the
GSM phone has keyboard runs linux and can be hacked category.

Android is about as much linux
as Rowan Atkinson is a good stand-in for Chuck Norris.

Chuck is NO match for Rowan. There is no way Chuck Norris can even dream of doing this?

The N900 set a bar for me. Because of the N900 I know exactly what I look for in a smartphone. It taught me that I would never want an iOS phone or a phone without hardware keyboard.

i regret buying mine. I used to walk into phone stores and get slightly giddy with all the different phones and types and special features that i could play with. Now i just walk in, stand in line for half an hour, tell them my n900 is playing up and send it away for repair while very anxiously hoping it's being fixed.

As much as i love it, i hate that it's made every other phones into, "Just another phone"
