I should get around to recording voice files, but not using my voice - will have to find someone with a more pleasing tonal quality...

I think for British English speakers, the "turn slightly left" and "turn slightly right" should be "bear left" or "bear to the left" and "bear right" or "bear to the right".

This does not mean there are Grizzly's on the road!!!

If you can be root in your device, then you can change it yourself:
# cd /usr/share/sounds/mapper
# cd <language code> (we have fi_FI for finnish, en_US for english, de_DE for german)
# mv turn-right.spx tmp
# mv turn-left.spx turn right.spx
# mv tmp turn-left.spx

I hope I didn't make any mistakes, I didn't try this myself! Good luck :-)
Hi everyone,

It is probably my lack of experience, but I don't seem to be getting anywhere trying to change the language.

I have gone into X Panel and put in "# cd /usr/share/sounds/mapper" but nothing shows up.

Hopefully someonce can advise me in a simple way as how to get the new language files, and how to put them into the right file.

The version of Mappero I have is 3.0+beta9.

when did "straight" become a direction?
As a native British English speaker, I'd say "continue straight ahead" would be more idiomatic.

Can we add more voice instuctions? such as distance to turn and make the current instruction more details such as saying "at the roundabout take the 3rd exit" ?

or can the program use a text reading program such as eSpeach to read the instructions that mappero gives, I get the impression that an earlier version of the program did this but was taken out as its only in english, it would be good for english speakers to have to option to use this or recorded instructions.

Don't put in the hashmark "#" in the command:
"cd /usr/share/sounds/mapper"

Hi! Yes more voice instructions would be good. But I don't think more details is that great. I'm pretty shure you know what to do, when you hear the current instructions.
