To change the color/colour of the progress bar, this is the image file you need to edit (I am using the NuvoClear2 theme):

/usr/share/themes/NuvoClear2/images/qgn_plat_progress_bar_gradient.png

google is helpful, as always:
http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/iphone-user-agent/

Code:
Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU like Mac OS X; en) AppleWebKit/420+ (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.0 Mobile/1A543a Safari/419.3
funny enough, this is very close to the one tear reports, resulting in more then one page giving me iphone-focused designs lately...

not sure how much better performance it will give, unless you mainly surf pages that have iphone-adapted versions...

I sometimes go in some Iphone-adapted sites...mainly I'm forced to browse with Microb because most pages I visit, have rcension-testing videos that webkit doesn't handle...and to copy and past every time the url is a bit annoyng...
but when I search for a fast andf light browsing my choose is tear in iphone useragent ^_^

I'm sort of the same. If I know that all I want to do is to browse and read I may choose Tear - but as soon as I want to do videos, install an app w/ dependencies, heck even selecting text or posting on maemo.org I use microb. Tear is either too jerky or simply doesn't support some features.
For some quick, simple browsing it's good though.

I added this question to the Tear wiki doc, which is intended to be a repository for all the "I have a question but the thread is too long" issues. (Note: there is also a "Search this Thread" feature.)

Maybe you know this, but to select text in tear you need to hold down the menu button.

Yes, but I find it to be very inprecise and laggy.
Apart from pure browsing and reading I find that Tear fail on pretty much everything, to me, compared to the built-in browser.
