Hi all!

is there a wlan scanner / mapper (preferably with GPS support) for my new N800?
I heard there is e.g. kismet available - does this run without changing the firmware?
Or is there a good alternative?

Thanks a lot!

Barry,

This link does not work (finds nothing). Is there another link you could provide?

Thanks,

Craig...

That's the weirdest thing I've seen on these boards, well besides Eucherprof's posts. It was supposed to link to getting kismet running on the Nokias.

Kismet works, and isn't too tough to install. I did it, but I don't remember exactly what I did, and I'm not much for change control, so I don't have documentation.

You'll have to have xterm & root access. You should be able to search this board & figure that out.

Kismet is packaged & has minimal dependencies (libpcap, perhaps more.)

The site:

is the place to start for finding applications.

Kismet does work well on the n770, but I have had very little luck on the n800. It ends up running, including using GPS if you have a bluetooth device, but times out after a variable amount of time. It just stops receiving packets. I've had it run as long as 30 or 40 minutes, but it's usually 3-10 minutes. This is with the latest firmware.

Also, on the n770 with OS2007HE, Kismet works, but I can't get the bluetooth GPS to run with gpsd. I haven't had time to track down the issue.
