Hi,

After updating my N800 firmware, I went to reinstall Navicore only to discover that the installer on my SD card is corrupt. My backup is corrupt, too.

Can anyone suggest how to obtain a fresh copy of the software? Is customer support at Navicore Tech helpful?

Thanks in advance,
- Steve

There is an installer on the DVD. Or if it's more convenient for you, you can download it from here:
http://services.navicoretech.com/dow..._2007_3.tar.gz
To unpack it on a Windows machine install eg. WinRAR. Afterwards go through the web-based update procedure to get the newest version of Navicore.

I had the same problem. I called tech support, and it was surprisingly helpful. The software for the N800 is different than the software for Symbian phones. Go to the right place on the website and you can just download the software again.

Thanks, zok & SD69. I'll give that a try.

I took a closer look at the SD card and I think the entire thing is corrupted. I mounted it on another machine and ran SHA1SUM on all the files. When I ran the SHA1SUM again, I got a different checksum on a dozen or so files.

It looks like my SD card is corrupted, so I'll probably need a fresh copy of the maps, etc. after all.

Wish me luck - I'll be contacting tech support this week.

Thanks again for the pointers,
- Steve

Steve,
Did you update to the most current firmware? I ask because the older firmware has a known SD card corruption bug. The current firmware supposedly fixes this problem.

Read this article and this thread for details (both courtesy ITT).

You might want to try and "fix" your card by putting it in a digital camera and formatting it. Some people have had success doing that. Otherwise try and get a replacement from manufacturer.

By the way, Steve, you can download all the maps from this page:
http://www.navicoretech.com/Consumer.../en_GB/tablet/
so if you have fast internet, maybe that's the way to go. It's for linux users, but I don't see why it shouldn't work on windows too. After starting the program on the device, you'll only have to enter the license key and you can use the maps.
Btw, I contacted Navicore once and they replied the next day. (I was hoping to get the traffic service running, but unfortunately they have not implemented that on N800.)

Thanks, zok. That link is exactly what I needed. The site would not accept my CD key, so I was having trouble getting to the downloads page.

calador - I did update to the latest firmware, and when I was reinstalling applications, I discovered the issues with the Navicore SD card. I've lost two SD 2.0 GB cards in the external card reader. Tech support at Nokia was a total waste of time. I actually sent the device in for service at Palco. They downgraded the firmware to the original release but offered no explanation.

It looks like I'm not the only one hoping the new firmware fixes the problem.

Thanks all. I cannot believe how helpful folks are on this forum!

Sorry for hijacking this thread but do you guys know how the Navicore licensing works? I have bought navigation kit for N770 recently but I am not sure with which device I will be using it. Is it tied to device MAC address or MMC card serial ID or whatever or can I install it on both n770 and n800 (perhaps using only with one device at a time)?

Since I have car holder for N770 I will use it with n770 most of the time but I'd like to test it with N800 too and maybe use it with N800 when not in car.

So will registration/activation tie it to the first device? Is the license easily transferable between multiple devices?

As I understand it, with a single license key, you can download and use software for one or the either of 770 or 800 and switch back and forth as you wish. Although you should know that the 770 is a wee bit underpowered at times. The license key will not work for Symbian software, and is specific to region. (You cannot use Europe license key with US maps and vice versa).

Well but does this involve contacting Navicore support or connect to network with each switch? That would be unfortunate but I guess the most probable. Anyone tried to upgrade n770 to n800 and reuse license key?
