I'm having a strange issue with my new N800.

I have 2 2GB miniSD cards, one in the internal slot, and one in the external slot. Occasionally, the internal card will not longer be recognized by the N800, as though the card wasn't there.

At first I thought the card wasn't seated properly, so I removed and reinserted and while the card started working again after a couple days I noticed it had quit again. I swapped the cards and the problem stays in the internal slot. This morning it happened and I rebooted the device without touching the card and it started working after reboot.

Any ideas? Is this a known problem? Is it time to call Nokia?

Thanks.

It just happenned to me but it turns out, that, in my case, it occurred when the ethernet cable was plugged in to my laptop. Unplugged the cable to the Nokia and the int memory card reappeared!

I'm not sure what you mean about plugging in an ethernet cable? Do you mean the USB cable?

In any case, it's not the same problem i'm having. Tablet is not connected to laptop.

I haven't updated the firmware to the latest yet. I didn't bother because I don't have any SDHC cards, but I might try that.

I had a similar problem. My internal card in my N800 was simply 'greyed out' one fine day and would not 'come back' in spite of tests that proved it was a working card.

Turns out there is a magnet in the back cover that must be in place in order for the card to 'appear' in the filemanager. It has to do with protecting the data on the card when the cover is removed, but if not for some kind members of this very forum, I'd have either never figured it out or would have been forced to return my N800 for 'repairs'...which wouldn't have been fun

The fix: My magnet had come loose and was simply stuck to in inside of the metal housing. I removed it with some tweezers and remounted it and voila!

I hope this works for you!

No such luck on the magnet. I checked it after doing a search on internal card problems. It is firmly in place, and besides, I can get the card function to return with a reboot without touching the back.

Although this gives me an interesting piece of evidence. With my problem, the card IS NOT greyed out! So, it looks like the card is mounted but it shows that it is empty and I get an error if I try to write to it.

Next time I'm going to try removing the back cover briefly to remount the card without a reboot to see if that works.

I'm also having a similar problem; every time I attempt to transfer files between my pc and the n800 I lose the card after about one minute. The card dissappears and can't be found through my pc or the n800 until the n800 is restarted.

Any ideas?

Issues sound similar to this bug:

Ok, the bug outlined in Mara's link is what I'm getting, except its happening when attempting to transfer files, not when checking the drive for errors.

Anyone know of a possible workaround for this problem?

shu: What firmware do you have? I just tried the diskcheck with OS2008 beta (44-4) and it seem to work OK now...
