I figure I would start a thread, if there isn't one already, where people could discuss and/or post art they have made on the n800 or 810. So here is a couple simple pieces made with xournal. I loaded the photos as backround images and then did some sketching on top! Actually with the self portrait I took the photo I used with the n800's camera. I just wish I could jump between layers! Does someone know how to do this!

Does anyone know of any good/better apps for art on the n800? I couldn't get Faint to work. I am missing some needed something or others.

You're talented. Have you tried installing KDE and using krita?

Thanks!

I have tried kde but krita wouldn't launch I have a bunch of things that are going wrong with my n800, software wise, that I don't feel like rolling up my sleeves and digging into just yet.

Do you know of an app that can reduce the brightness and contrast of photos on the n800? That would be a big help!

Also, it looks like you had some fun with that sketch! Did you try Airx and gimp yet? I have to read up on how in the hell Airx works!

Well I am going to keep this thread going damn it, even if I have to post replies to myself!

I found that KDE's basic paint program allowed me to adjust brightness and contrast on photos. This could be a work around. Boot into KDE, adjust the photos you want to use in xournal, then shut down KDE and load the photos into xournal. It would be better if you could just paste the photo into a layer in xournal (or some other more appropriate app then dim the layer's transparency to half or so, and work right in the native maemo enviorment but alas this, as I can see, can't be accomplished....yet.

But...there is still one problem, KDE didn't allow me to save my dimmed images to mmc...thinking back, I don't think I even got a chance to load them, it wouldn't let me do that either. So, while you feasibly COULD adjust brightness and contrast in KDE, you can't load or save them? Anyone have that problem or figure it out yet?

There used to be a gimp-lite type program called Horizon that was available for the 770. I am kind of surprised that no one has ported it forward as it was amazingly useful for its simplicity. I liked how you had an infinite (limited by memory) canvas that you just selected sections out of to export.
It had a useful cloning tool too for touching up photos.

Also there was some talk on the mailing lists about using the pressure sensitivity of the tablet touch screen to vary brush widths and also using the tablet as an bluetooth pressure sensitive tablet peripheral for your regular computer. But I don't think either of those ideas ever went anywhere. I am hoping that I am wrong.

Here is the relevant URL:
http://pippin.gimp.org/horizon/
... I see there is an armel binary but I have my doubts that it would work for OS2008 without some recompiling of the source ... which is also available there.

I'm a graphic designer but I only tried a little sketching with the sketch program. Faint is too slow and cluttered for direct artwork on my N800.

I still think the tablet & stylus would make a great, handheld sketching device. But I'm still looking for a fast, simple intuitive program where you could mix, apply and blend colors naturally.

Horizon looks promising, but I no longer have my 770.

Just to be consistent: there is a great app, called MyPaint, which shows real promise for making art on the tablet. Here is the link to that thread, which has discussion and download info: http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...d.php?p=150898

Nice sketches, awe215. Here are a couple I did with the built-in sketch app a while ago.

Damn! That is some serious ink work! I never considered the built in sketch app for that kind of serious art. Great! ;-)
