I rest my N810 on top of my steering column and leaning against my instrument panel. It stays in place because I have put two "Glue Dots" on top of the steering column.

The "Glue Dots" come in a few different styles. I got mine (roll of 75) for $3.99 (US) in a craft store. I heard they have them in hobby shops, too. The ones that are 1/8 inch thick work well.

The glue is very sticky but it does not leave a residue of any kind on my n810 and can be pulled off of the steering column (actually, pushing the glue into a lump seems to work best). It leaves no marks on the steering column either.

I have been using the same two dots for two weeks with no apparent reduction of holding strength.

If you've ever played with the gummy glue that 's used to hold down folds in magazine advertisements, then you have an idea of what I'm talking about.

NOTE: When I want to remove the n810 I pull it HORIZONTALLY across the steering column. If you pull it away from the dash or pull it up, the glue is so strong the n810's stand will bend.

After using these forums to get information, it feels good to be able to contribute for a change. I hope this tip works for you.

That sounds like a nice inexpensive solution but there is a "more official" way to attach it without ruining your car - even though Nokia for some reason didn't see it necessary to tell anybody about it

What I mean is that I have the "Nokia HH-12 Holder Easy Mount", it's a suction cup thing you attach to the windscreen, and the N810 holder fits right into it with a screw. Works great. No need to screw anything into the dashboard and the suckion cup stays in place well and is adjustable as well.

The most cheapest and best method i used was just to attach the free n810 mount by cable tieing it to the dash vents, works a treat and easliy removable if needed.

Well, I'm in Finland, so here it's available at least at www.verkkokauppa.com:

In other countries I just don't know. Out of curiosity, I just took a look at Nokia's US site and it says "only in stores":

http://www.nokiausa.com/link?cid=EDITORIAL_184656

So I really have no idea. Since it's the same thing that's used with many phones (you just replace the holder with the one that comes with the N810), I'd expect it to be available at wherever people would go to buy stuff like that for their phones / get it installed. When I lived in the US a while ago, I had some stereo work etc. done at Best Buy and I think they offered all these bluetooth / phone holder things too, so in the US I'd probably check first there or whatever is the "big electronics chain" nearby. But well, haven't lived there for 5 years so I just don't know

Edit: just checked Ebay, there's at least some.

I did a search on froogle.com for "Nokia HH-12" and found 2 hits for about 55$ for the HH12 in a bundle with some cradle for a nokia cell phone (which you don't need). I bought my HH-12 from Amazon (Germany) but they only ship to Germany and Austria; It costs 28 EUR over here...
The HH-12 itself, however, is great... lots of possibilities to tilt and adjust and the suction cup is also very good

Here is the cheapest I found, for 29.99 + 4.95 S&H.

It's at the alltel store:

There are loads of HH-12 mounts available on the UK ebay site.
(I've just ordered one to try it, although I have fixed the mount supplied with the N810 to a Brodit clip-on bracket in my car.)
Simon.
