I do not have wifi where I work. I'm not holding my breath on getting it and if we were to get it I doubt they'd let "non business assets" on it.

When I search for wireless networks on my N810 (OS2008) I see a metric buttload of "ad hoc" networks with SSIDs such as "NETGEAR" and "default". It seems to me these aren't networks people are running off their laptops but wireless routers somewhere in the building. They're open and I can connect to them. But then what? What can I do beyond that?

I have tried setting up my proxy information and assigning a static IP (in the 192.168.0.x range). I can't see anything inside our network or beyond. My knowledge of ad hoc is it's just a peer-to-peer network to allow file sharing between two computers. Is it possible to access the network through one? What would I have to do on my end. Yes, I do realize there could be something to do on their end which I won't be allowed to do.

Thanks,
John
