Does anybody know how to set up internet call for voipbuster or freecall (or voipwise etc). I have been able to get it to work once on two occasions and then it fails to connect. It must be some small setting.

Ok sorry Saturn. Found your instructions for Nokia N 800. They work for the N810 as well

I wonder why Nokia makes it so difficult
Thanks

Could you please tell me where the settings are for nokia n800. I did a quick search but couldnt find.
Do you use it with freecall and what is your feedback. I use freecall a lot and it would be great if i can do so from nokia n800.

Thanks in advance,

How is it difficult? These are all standard fields needed to connect any generic SIP client to a SIP service provider offering VoIP, IM, etc.

If you want something idiot-proof where you only need to input your username and password, Gizmo might do it for you, but that's because their settings are hardcoded into their client. Operative word here is 'their'. If Nokia ran their own SIP service, it would be easy as well.

Also, if you did a search for the Instant Messaging Updates, you'd know that RTCOMM Beta does offer an almost idiot-proof way to set up your account, although YMMV

That statement was like saying that Nokia are idiots because they make setting up a mail account difficult by asking you to fill in over 10 fields

Why freecall/voipbuster etc and not gizmo/skype? Freecall/voipbuster etc, as the name suggests, is free - at least to the half a dozen countries that interest me. I talk to Australia (from Europe) for hours on freecall and it doesn't cost a dime. Check www.freecall.com.

Wny complicated? Because you have to muck around with code in terminal. I would expect it to work by just entering the account and SIP information in "internet call" as is the case with x-lite on Mac.

I don't think that Nokia are idiots, I think that they are pushing you towards the rather expensive skype.

As I recall I was one of the unwashed hordes seething with indignation that there was no skype functionality way back when. Well we got what we demanded, Nokia listened. Just be careful what you wish for

I guess what you guys are looking for is this:

Good chances are that you can make voip[catchyword].com work by disabling the
iLBC codec. Here's how to do it in the on-screen terminal or an SSH shell (the
red pill mode might be helpful here).

1. sudo gainroot
2. cd /usr/lib/gstreamer-0.10
3. mv libgstdspilbc.so libgstdspilpbc.so.off

https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1699
This is from a post from Saturn.

I have noticed however that Gizmo stopped working after the step 3 above. To get Gizmo working again, you need to do the following:

4. mv libgstdspilbc.so.off libgstdspilpbc.so

Obviously voipbuster won't work anymore after renaming the library to the original name.
