Hi,

i installed Canola2 follwing the instructions on the canola homepage.

So far canola works flawless, but it canīt find any media items ?

My mp3 files are located on MMC1 Folder MP3.

I searched the forums and found this thread:

http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...ad.php?t=16495

i have tryed scanning for media in media Section with unchecked and checked flag on MMC1 entry... in both ways no success.

One time i could see the playlists, but when starting it i got the no items found error.

Any ideas?

John:

1) what device / firmware are you using ?

2) so you checked all your media folders in (audio, video and photos) correctly? (like the Eye with a small "check" is on every memory card?

3) if on a n810 you made sure to format the internal memory (to prevent from a known product problem)

4) if none of this happens please try :

Running canola using the application xterm (on utilities) with :

canola -vvv

then try to play a file and send to us.

Also try to see if you have atabake installed by typing it on the xterm.

If the settings doesnt find you may have a corrupted installation that is a recurring problem that we are "observing" through the releases, it seems that the repositories send a "OK" for some file.. and it's not true in the end.. you get a damaged installation.

canola2beta5 hasnt been working at all for me
either no items found
and once i got that figured out, and it found all my music - when i tried to play it, itd just hang and sometimes freeze

Nokia's Media Player is more reliable, and even that sucks (sometimes its like "unable to perform action" - and then i hafta resort to the file manager

but when Canola is working, its amazing - so perfectly designed
i really like the Album cover display -but in the next beta can u do the same thing except sort it by ARTIST? (display images of each artist) cuz the "artist" part of every mp3 is consistent - the albums are often blank or misspelled in my library

Hi Opposite :
Yes, there's no doubt about the default media being more reliable )) after all it has been about 3-4 years on the oven, and it's connected directly (no DBUS needed) to the media-engine... and doesn't support mplayer / other players.. thus it kills most of the problems.

Actually your problem seems to be the same as some others... our media abstraction layer was not installed correctly (why? I really wanted to find out) so when you try playing something it does nothing ...

So : can you please open xterm and try typing "atabake" ? to see at least if it's there?

What happens to canola is : we want to use the platform player (but the way for doing it ) is using DBUS, on bora and gregale it will not play musics with accents, or other characters, apart from this, Dbus is a little bit old on the platform and sometimes it just takes times.. or it just don't send the correct message..etc thus we end up in it's hand for the media playback to work correctly and it doesn't. Apart from that we also try to comply with the platform in several layers, and also be compatible with all the other versions of software.. this add a lot of problems that we are fixing it but are hard sometimes even to replicate.

Now add to this the fact that each user is unique, has unique habits... uses different repositories, some were curious and tried the edje demos, other have a soup of 10 to 15 repositories (thanks gronmayer ) and when a application that is a little bit more complex and have more dependencies comes... the mess is done : /

We are trying to improve it and that's the only reason we are releasing so much "betas" we need REAL testing from you guys, because our tests are more then prooved that cannot fulfill the needs you have : /

About the album sorted by artist? then it's not cover art but we will see what we can do, something like you choose the artist on a list, and then have a list of that artists albums... maybe.. let's see. I just don't want to have ANOTHER piece of canola that dependends on copyrighted material that users don't have by default : /

basically, instead of Album Cover shuffling, i just want a list of all the ARTISTS in order, and instead of just text saying their name, i want images - (which i can pick any of the album covers by that artist to be default)

Opposite : try starting in Xterm with -vv and send us the output, isn't it out of memory?
What device are you using?
