I just recently purchased an n800 and I am impressed with the applications all of you programmers out there have created and thank you. I would like to suggest that someone write a program that would allow connection of a guitar via USB to the n800 and provide recording availability. Obviously hardware (a USB guitar jack) would be needed as the ext. mic recording would not suffice. This already exists, see http://www.welovemacs.com/jamplug.html or just Google "USB guitar jack". What I would like is a Nokia nSeries version of ProTools or GarageBand. This would provide the portability of a unit like the Boss microBR (http://www.rolandus.com/go/micro-br/), and the power and interface of a ProTools-like program. I think this would be immensely popular. Is this possible? **note I have checked out Pychord-it is not what I am suggesting.

i dont think that the N800 has the cpu power to deal with anything remotely similar to protools, or even garageband...

The Boss MicroBR mentioned above has very little power and handles an amazing amount of recording multiple tracks, editing, mixing, etc. It wouldn't have to do everything ProTools does. I would would settle for what the MicroBR does with the better touchscreen interface that the Nseries would afford.

still, that is a dedicated device made for one purpose only.

the N800 on the other hand is just like a desktop or laptop pc.

i suspect that the only way you would get a satisfying result would be if you basically threw the current firmware away and started from scratch...

My old Palm T3 (400MHz XScale) can sample 44kHz, but I don't know if that's done through any additional hardware - I'm not aware of any DSP there, but there could be one, of course. I should think the N800 has enough guts to handle at least what the T3 can do, but if it needs to go through the DSP then we're thin on documentation.
