I happen to have an Apple ethernet usb connector, is it possible to use it to set up a wired connection from my n800? I also own a miniUSB to "regular" USB so that's not the problem. It has to do with a driver, I believe. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Don't know. What chipset does it use? Do you know the power requirements?

It's USB 2.0 which probably means its power requirements are too great.

I'm having difficulty tracking down a Linksys USB100M in the UK (or in San Francisco recently) :-(

Thanks, I considered the USB 2.0 issue, but was hoping for the best. BTW, I did try the LInksys USB100M. I wouldn't recommend it. The poorly designed door/connector broke on the first use. Too bad, because other Linksys products are usually fine.

I cant seem to find any other USB 1.0 usb ethernet connectors. At this point I'm considering getting a portable wireless router, but I'd like an a) wired and b) cheaper option. Any advice would be appreciated.

I have one that is, I believe USB 1.1 and uses the AEI chipset... (Ambit?) but I could never get it to work outside of Windows.... drivers were non existant and talking to the manufacturer was pointless as they'd EOL'd it and were staying tight lipped over chipsets and specs.

Typically USB 2.0 devices draw too much power as mentioned previously, but you never know, you might luck out! As for drivers etc just install the USB Wired Networking package, as described in the Wiki; it will automatically install and load all of the currently available kernel drivers for USB networking, and setup automatic dummy acounts/etc for you... basically, it makes wired networking as easy as it's going to get (to the point that even my dad who doesn't understand how to write emails uses it on a regular basis!).

If you're looking for USB100Ms I've also got them along with an assortment (slowly growing, I'm always trying to get more) of N800/tablet accessories:

Thanks!
