I had a Nokia 770, but the device kind of broke and it looks like my repair is "Awaiting Replacement Device"...

My sister-in-law had a replacement and she got a Nokia N800, so I suspect I will get the same.

How is the Nokia N800 better than the Nokia 770?

Can I tether it to my Verizon LG VX8600?

Check out the other threads, but long story short - most people like the N800 much better than the N800. Consider yourself lucky if you get the N800 as a replacement.

The N770 has a slightly better screen for outside and the hard case cover which protects the screen. The N800 beats it in all other categories IMHO and I own both units so I have experience with both.

What other features does it have? Faster? Is the screen protected at all? I can't just put it in my bag, huh? My sister-in-law got an N800, so I suppose I will get the same. It sounds like it doesn't matter which one I get, because both are good and bad for different reasons.

If your sister-in-law has a N800 and you had a N770, can't you make out which one is better from experience?

She most likely never uses it and I haven't seen her since she's gotten it.

I received my N800 yesterday -- the result of a non-repairable N770 with the WSOD.

Yipes, I had no idea how much better the N800 would be. The performance is now at a usable speed (the N770 was always a nice "OK for what it is, but I couldn't do MUCH browsing with it"), the OS2008 and Diablo combo are excellent, it's smaller, more RAM capability. Just an improvement at practically every level. It comes with a little felt bag that protects it. Not as cool as the hard case on the N770, but less bulky, too.

If they offer you an N800, take it. My further advice, however, is to get in contact with Nokia if it's been some time since you sent them the broken N770. I sent mine in, then went to Malaysia for five months, and when I returned they still hadn't resolved my problem. Made email contact. They responded immediately. Made phone contact. Had a new unit within 10 days. They were VERY speedy once we started communicating. No complaints.

Where do you get the OS2008 and the Diablo combo?

It seems like they aren't sending out any Nokia 770s anymore.

I got Diablo and OS2008 directly from the Nokia site. Find the support section, download firmware, choose the N800 and you're there. Download the Flasher update and when you run it, you'll be upgraded with both Diablo and OS2008.
