Hi there folks
Any idea if nokia or sprint will make an addon wimax adapter for the n800, and n810?

Not that wimax is that attractive to me (there is wifi anywhere i go), but it wouldn't hurt to have, so I'm trying to figure out if to wait and get the wimax edition when it comes out, or get it sooner without it, especially if there will be an adapter.

Thanks in advance,

Tom

oh by the way, I have been cellphone free for 3 months (a bit of a hassle but manageable), and I am planning on buying a SkypeIN number (60 dollar a year) and going completely voIP with the n810. Cheaper, better, safer, and much cooler

I'm a VOIP user through gizmo. Only problem and major drawback is that you can't send SMS or MMS's without a using email->cell. I purchased a wonderful number from Gizmo and proceeded to get a "Can not send this SMS to landline" from my cell phone on the number.

If there's a good way to do this, I would be so very grateful to hear it.

Otherwise the only drawback to voip on my N810 is that it takes about 2 seconds after I pick up the call to where I can chat flawlessly. This doesn't happen when I make a call.

You can buy the N810 WiMAX edition instead?

I'll be using UMTS/HSDPA phone, with VPN/SSH, then SIP. My only worry is the lag. Be aware, many providers don't allow VoIP or VPN by their contract.

thanks for the replies

Yea I am looking into Gizmo now and not skype, cheaper costs and more free features.

Skype do have a 2.99/month unlimited call plan within usa, but i am sure that Gizmo will catch up on such offer pretty soon.

Sad to hear about the Gizmo SMS to cellphone issue, we should bring it to their attention.

I cannot buy n810 wimax yet, only saw it for pre-order for like 400 dollar online, while n810 with no wimax is about 350 +/-.

Between College, home, coffee shops, and work, there is free wifi everywhere I go, so switching to a voIP phone is the way to go i think...and I can make it a habit to visit a coffee shop to check for calls a few times a day when i am not around wifi...

Honestly, until wimax is widely available, it is more of a marketing scheme in my view. Do you really need to buy connected 24/7 everywhere you go to the internet or cellphone? I can count on one hand the number of times a month i get an emergency call from someone i know...

hi guys, figured ill share this with you, found it on the gizmo forum:

Why not just setup your gizmo5 account into the built-in SIP and Jabber client ?
Works a treat for me and integrates with the Contact List , etc.
You can find instructions http://rtcomm.garage.maemo.org/
Good Luck.
