There's a lot of issues with modest that should be fixed. I'm waiting for the next SSU, too.

What makes me wonder, though, is that they start closing bugs in bugzilla with "will be fixed in fremantle", which means they'll bite us forever on non-Fremantle devices. - Looks a lot like the 770-syndrome.

Thanks Texrat! Now we can start another discussion thread where everybody's second cousin's father-in-law who knows a bartender that serves Nokia engineers' wives will let us know when we can expect the update. Not to mention the ever expanding list of bug fixes and new features.

Stskeeps is working on a new progect witch is called "Maemo Reconstructed" (Mer), witch will be the successor of Deblet and is aimed at a "user-frendly, hackible, flexible and, powrful" user experience. It will also use some similar components that Fremantle will be using; xserver-xorg instead of xomap for an example, and will be using Ubuntu for the base system (from mojo) and will be using several components from maemo and deblet, witch is whi it is called maemo reconstructed. It will also have the ability to fully support Hildon and possibly even maemo applications, but would still support other desktop environments such as kde and gnome if hildon isn't for you.

Currently Mer is still in it's early stages of development, however, if you wish to get involved, pm Stskeeps and he will get you started.

You can find for information about Mer from theas links:

For good measure - this is a proof of concept system we're doing. The proposal was called Maemo Reconstructed, but the proof of concept system is called Mer (we cannot call something Maemo obviously, as this has nothing to do with Maemo, other than being a project that may eventually help with things).

The purpose is to support future OS development done in the tablet community and to aid in helping Maemo to be more in alignment with standard distributions and serve as an experimental community platform..

What Mer is not:

* A Maemo competitor - Mer is meant as a proof of concept to research in what directions may be feasible and which may not be, to serve as properly researched and documented community input to the Maemo platform.
* An Nokia/Maemo-backed effort, - 100% done by tablet enthuiasts
* Something that is installable here and now
* Ready for use

.. Just to clear things up
