I faced interesting error today. I deleted one of the repositories using the application manager and application catalog. After that my application manager quit working. When I start the application manager I get error "Operation failed". In log it says "write: Bad file descriptor". I can't see installed application or check for update.

Any ideas of what I did wrong and what to do in order to get it fixed. I really appreciate all ideas since right now I can't install nor check for updates.

I hope the reinstalling is not my only option. I used to consider OS2006 very stable and the 770 as a quality device. However, if these kind of things occur to the end user I really have reconsider.

Any other ideas to try?

Had you added the repo for minimo? this happened to me the other day. I added
http://home.ufam.edu.br/~agan/minimo/
Distrobution:binary-arm/
Components:n/a
I then got an error cant update packages so i deleted the repo i had just added. That in turn killed application manager. This repositorys Component field need to be blank NOT n/a adding the repository back to the list with Components field empty fixed Application manager.

No, it didn't have anything to do with minimo. I solved this problem by creating sources.list file on my linux pc and then transferring it to 770 device. I changed to root in terminal and copied the new file over the old corrupted file. Now it seems to work.

Application manager refuses to download updates for me, so I feel your pain. To test this without doing anything to my own device, I just reflashed a coworker's new 770 with the 2006 OS (it had 2005) and right away it couldn't use Application manager, either. Refresh absolutely refuses to work. So we're both stuck. WTF?

Also, even when Application manager worked (a few weeks ago), minimo wouldn't install for me, either. It claimed prerequisite packages were missing; the only ones I can find report incompatibility. Again, WTF?

I love this tablet but sometimes it's worse than Windoze...

EDIT: I found sources.list by navigating to /etc/apt with the web browser. Unfortunately, I can't hand edit it (file not recognized, and the OS is missing the crucial ability to add editors/viewers on the fly). I noticed that after the 2006 update one of the tableteer repositories appears corrupt-- it can't be edited or deleted. I'm suspecting this is the culprit. But... I'm stuck.

You must be root to edit it or even read it (mode 600)

I'm root, but again: no app is recognized on my 770 as able to open or edit this file. I installed the editor known as "Joe" but it didn't show up in any of the folders so I'm assuming it's command line-- but no idea where it is or how to launch it...

For editing files in root mode: I use becomeroot , then Midnight Commander (which has a nice small editor):
Both are terminal applications, so you need Xterm as well, of course.
