My N800 is now just over 2 years old and just over the warranty period, when the screen started jittering vertically. The jitter is light, only 1mm or so, so things are still readable, but I believe it is getting worse.

After reading about similar screen problems others had, I started to heat up the device with a hair dryer - and wonder: the jitter stops, screen is crisp again.

Putting it back into a refrigerator, the jitter starts again.

So this is definitely a heat problem. Is there any solution? Replacing the touch screen may be an option, but far too expensive, not economical.

Any other idea? Used N800s in Germany still go for 150€ at ebay/amazon, so I'm reluctant to go this path.

Why can't you just keep your nokia in a warm dry spot?

subjecting it to extreme cooling and heating cycles is most likely damaging it further, so you know its happening, stop doing that.

Hi, have a similar issue. The odd thing is that display jitters only when desktop is empty, if instead some app is active the image is stable. The only exception is with mplayer, where all the frames goes down in a cyclic way, like a slow slot machine. How can this happen? I do not remember any particular software update, it suddenly started few days ago.

cheers

My N800 showed the same problem when it was just 11 months old. I got it repaired in the US under warranty. As far as I remember, the jitter was stronger with one desktop theme than with another.

I had the same problem as you are having and used a hair dryer also. Over a period of time the screen would continue to jitter and roll, hot or cold, bummer.

The problem is if it happens just outside the warranty period. Yours left the factory with a wrong preset for the self destroy timer , mine was programmed correctly

In my case it depended on the brightness of the right edge.

So what did you guys do with the faulty device?

Throw it in the trash, use it as a portable webserver, or make it an iPod-shuffle?

The roll speed is slow enough for me to get some limited use from it, dailcentral, and mediaplayer. Trying to holdout for the next model or a used N810 WiMAX unit, any offer .

Bought a new screen (though they're difficult to find now), I hope this one lasts more than a year
