Remove the lock passcode.
This is far more convenient and zip the private data to a password protected archive.

Since if have some sensitive data that I want to keep private I use the screen auto-lock with passcode. However, this makes listening to music a pain in the ***. It's pretty common that I want to skip a song I'm listening to or maybe pause play while someone is talking at me. In order to do either of those I have to press the screen once to get the passcode entry then enter the passcode then hit enter then if I make a mistake entering it I have to enter it all over again. Finally I get the media player(Canola2,Mediabox,youamp,kagu). Frustrating. How do other people do this without wanting to blow ones brains out?

It's not optimal but you could dual-boot. Use the internal flash memory for your sensitive docs (and be sure to use something like truecrypt else all someone would have to do is plug a microusb cable into the device and read the data). Clone the internal to a mini (or microsd => minisd) external SD card. Use the external install for music and such.

I'm only aware of Easycrypt for encrypting, and as far as I know there's no easy .deb for installing it. If anyone knows of a simple way to encrypt files (or, better yet, a volume) for the Tablets, I'd be interested.
I do something similar to what linuxeventually recommended, but my need for security is less than yours. I use the internal boot for "out of the house" use, and it doesn't, for example, load my gmail unless I put in my password. I use my SD-based-boot for around-the-house (which I usually am); it can't be loaded without getting past the password lock, and it has all my passwords automatically entered.

But, I think the point is to just be able to lock the device and still be able to control the media player. I, for one, would hate to always have to use an additional app (or untar/zip/whatever a directory) just to be able to access files.

If the PowerButton command "Lock touchscreen and keys" could be modified to only "Lock touchscreen," that would indeed seem better.
Can PowerLaunch be made to do that?
"Powerlaunch is designed to allow the easy creation of new interfaces with event-driven handlers. Events such as user inputs like key presses or touchscreen events and system events like headphone state or battery level can be handled however the user wishes."
