Hello everyone!

As Iīm eagerly waiting for my N900 to arrive, I am planning a car computer system, where the N900 would be delivering the computing part. I know that this isnīt probably the best solution for a carPC, but I can see some advantages over the traditional one:

- No boot times(as it is always on and with me)
- Out of the box finger friendly UI
- Gps
- Great connectivity(3g,wifi...)
- Phone
- Music libraries always up to date
- Cost efficient(as in I donīt have to buy a separate carPC)

The setting I have in my mind is: N900, amplifier(and speakers of course) and 7"(800x480) USB touchscreen.

Now the big question is: Can the N900 be operated through an Usb touchscreen? Is USB OTG somehow related to this(hopefully not), or is it just a matter of finding suitable drivers? And if the latter, which models have the needed driver support?

Of course there is the possibility to use a regular TFT display through Tv-out, but when driving I find even 4+" touchscreens to be too small for smooth operating.

Found this thread: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=30309 which is mainly about these screens: http://www.mimomonitors.com/

These are IMO really sleek looking devices and I could see myself using one around the house or in the car. But as these are usb powered and because of the N900`s lack of USB OTG, they donīt seem to be the easiest choice around. And even if it had the OTG, does the N900 provide enough juice(5V??) from itīs microUSB to run the screen? And if it does, are the drivers suitable for Maemo?

One solution might be to use my mad skillz(somewhere between nonexistent and mediocre) in soldering and make a connector(USB>microUSB) which would take 5V from an outside source. Perhaps even so that it would output 5V to both directions, so it would power the touchscreen and charge the n900 simultaneously. Altough Iīm not sure if this is even possible or safe to do?

Another solution would be to find a screen which has separate 12V power and USB. In this case the N900 could charge from the USB(much like connecting to a computer). Or is there a possibilty, that the connection doesnīt provide enough power for the phone to charge?

Even if you could get the screen to connect physically, this would require a lot of software development before you'll get anything usable - it won't "just work" when you plug it in.
