Ok this is to Import /export your gmail calendar to the native calendar that comes with the n900

It is not an automated solution just the one that works for me. As with anything YMMV. I am still having a little trouble getting events made on the 900 to import to gmail correctly.

From gmail calendar to n900

In the n900 opening an ical link in gmail calendar for your specific calendar will bring up a dialog to import the calendar.

Step by step

Method 1
Open a web browser and log into your google calendar.
On the left there is a box displaying your calendars. Choose settings
Choose the calendar you would like to import.
Choose the private ical link at the bottom. Click on the big blue link. A new page will open and a file download dialog will open. Choose "Open with Calendar"
Select the calendar that you would like to import to. Choose save.

Method 2
I have my gmail account set up on the n900, so I sent myself an email with the ical links to my Google calendars. I then opened up the email on the device and just clicked the link.
A new page will open and a file download dialog will open. Choose "Open with Calendar"
Select the calendar that you would like to import to. Choose save.

From n900 to Google calendar

Not perfect sync.

Open calendar on n900 select the calendar toolbar. Choose settings.
Choose edit calendar.
Choose the calendar to export.
Choose "export" dialog.
Save the file somewhere where you know it will be.
Open your Google calendar in a web browser.
On the left there is a box displaying your calendars. Choose settings.
Choose import calendar. In the dialog choose browse. Navigate to you save file. Select calendar you would like to import to and then select import.

Good luck to all.

E.

Doesn't the N900 support Mail for Exchange : http://www.google.com/mobile/products/sync.html ?

If you read around a little mfe only syncs one calendar and sometimes works and sometimes not.

My method is separate from mfe and allows you to sync as many calendars from Google to the n900 as you would like.

This is not syncing. What you describe is importing and exporting calendars. Thanks for that writeup, it will sure be useful to some, but calling it syncing is wrong.

So just to clarify how this works, if I import a calendar from Google to the N900 this way, it stays up to date with changes made on Google on its own, but if I make changes directly in the N900's calendar app they don't get reflected on Google automatically - is that right?

The import only works for the data that is on the Google calendar at the time of importation. Any future changes to your Google calendar will require a new import step. This will add the new data from the Google calendar.

With regard to exporting the n900 calendar. It seems that some of the events on the calendar get exported and sometimes they get duplicated on the Google calendar. I haven't done enough testing to understand the behavior.

I would like to sync / copy my gmail calender to my n900 but days later and I still cant get it done. I tried importing, but that seems to want to bring other things into my gmail calender (which is not what I want to do)?? I tried exporting from my gmail calender to n900 (which is what I want to do) but I dont see an option to to save as calender - just save. Then when I go to find it, I cant??? Also, it seems to be saving as a zip file and I dont know how to open zip on n900???

When I tried to send myself the ical email, this didnt open up as a link. Just an address. All of above is taking place with a very slow internet link.

Yours, very frustrated!!!

I tried to open calender file in the N900 and got an error that its an invalid calendar file.

I guess I will wait for proper sync anyways as the whole point for me is for my device to remind me to do stuff because I will forget, so naturally i will forget to update my calendar too.
