Given that Nokia Suite/Ovi/WMPlayer does not recognise the N900 (or more importantly the SD card) as an audio device there an easy way of converting all my MP3s to a lower bit rate to transfer to the N900.

My library is all 320Kps and will not fit on a 16Gb card. I would like to go to 128Kps or even 64 and in WMA preferably.

There are a bewildering number of shareware/freeware titles around but does anyone have any recommendations or an alternative way or sorting my problem (i.e fooling WIndows Media player into thinking it has an audio device then i can set a sync rate).

I would rather not rip all 500 Cds again

Many thanks
John

Is there any particular reason you want to put them all on an SD card when there is around 27GB of available space on the N900 itself?

The N900 has great sound quality, its immoral to consider putting 64Kbit WMA on it especially as you are talking about transcoding from lossy to REALLY REALLY lossy, so considerably worse than ripping from CD. If you are obsessed with 64Kbit then why not AAC? Although personally I would never drop below 128Kbit, EVER.

SD card or N900 itself I don't care but at 320Kbit it won't fit and I still need a solution to get to 128Kbit AAC MP3 or WMA without having to rip my collection again. My 64Gb music collection is not going to fit otherwise.

I am used to high end Sony Walkmans and in my experience WMA at 128 sounds better than the same in MP3 but either sounds pretty good given the space they take, although nowhere near CD quality.

it's always a compromise

If you REALLY want to re-encode I reccomend using dbPoweramp. You can set it to convert, rename, and put in a specified folder
If you're going for a low bitrate you should go for HE AAC v1(>64kbps)/v2(<64kbps).
