I finally figured out (via XTerm) what notes was using for file names, as File Manager hides extensions by default.

One result is that I now have two files in Documents { ~/MyDocs/.documents/ } with similar names:
2DoNote.txt
2DoNote.note.html

But I cannot tell them apart in File Manager.

Is there a way to turn of the "hide extensions" function?

Thanks

This doesn't just aflict the filemanager but also file selection dialogs

Well, it's not like this can't be done by the community.

(File Manager doesn't handle the extension stuff itself; that's libhildonfm's role.)

+1 on this -- Hiding file extensions is asking for trouble in so many ways.

Edit -- This is a general security issue and shouldn't be a "choice" of someone to be able to install if they are a sophisticated user. Hiding file extensions from the UI just allows a access vector that is easy to close; even Microsoft has finally acknowledged this. You may be able to reasonably secure the OS, but you need to provide the ability for the "idiot at the keyboard" to make reasonable choices.

Alas, why I'll likely never recommend the N900 to my friends

Non-nerd apps; USB charging - generic and reliable; Distinctive ring tones; GPS failure to lock; Competitive "maps" application; Supported MMS, iSync, Bluetooth

(The feeble FM transmitter bugs me too)
