My N800 has developed a problem with opening more than a couple of applications at once. Sometimes it works, sometimes nothing happens, occasionally it reports "Internal error. Application 'Web' closed" (or whatever the application is), and refuses to open it.

Right now, I have the latest VNC and gaim running, and
I get the aforementioned error trying to open Web or XTerm.

If I quit VNC, I can launch XTerm.

If I then do /usr/bin/browser (guessing at how to launch it), I get 'segmentation fault'.

Any suggestions? Is there a log I can look for that would tell me what the problem is?

I noticed the same 'error message' with my device on a few occasions, of course I have had major issues with the device freezing up and rebooting due to browsing the internet and listening to the media player (internet radio) at the same time...

I just noticed that if I ssh into the N800, maemo-launcher is pegged at about 97% CPU usage.

My N800 was locked up in the UI thereafter until I did kill-9 on it.

Surely, someone has some troubleshooting advice here. Logs?

Well, do you have the same problem if you have both the Web browser and xterm running and then launch vncviewer? Or, does it only happen for certain combinations? If it happens for vncviewer as well, then that is something that I can possibly investigate.

It happens for various combinations.

Can't investigate it now, though. I was silly enough to go and do apt-get dist-upgrade, which deleted all sorts of useless files, such that I can't boot the device. I'm now busy flashing it back to scratch. Thanks, anyway.

Check this out

http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...ead.php?t=4086

This process has consistently, before I turned it off, used all memory it could get its hands on. I used mpv and it showed it was using 100+MB Memory. I killed it and put "exit 0" on the second line of the /etc/init.d/metalayer-crawler0 and I dont have that problem anymore. Not sure exactly what I turned off (something related to media player). Might fix your issue?

Before you kill the launcher do a free, how much memory was free?
