Hello people its my first post and i'm here hoping you guys can give me some info on the N900 because i really like the phone, but i have been considering a nexus one ever since i heard about it.

I have a few questions about the N900 as a whole

first i wanted to know what the GPS on the N900 is really like, i mean how is the lock on and the accuracy in general, i am currently using an N97 and the GPS capability is absolutely crap, i mean i dont need a hardcore navigation device, just something to mess around with every now and again when i go geochaching and so on

second i heard there was an update to make the N900 more user friendly, as in make the portrait mode more useful, i wanted to know to what extent did the update succeed, for example would i be able to type in a simple sms or direction into the phone using it in portrait mode via an on screen keyboard?

Third i wanted some info about the general battery life, like if i had the GPS on and a 3G connection how long would the battery run for?

And last, and sorry for the extent of the post, hardware aside and from the bottom of your hearts which is really better the nexus one or the N900?

thank you for the info

There are several threads with nearly exact same titles as yours.

here for example is N900 vs Droid vs Nexus. And here is a first hand review of both and several pages thereafter of community discussion.

You are not going to get anything new in this post that hasn't already been addressed many times.. I'd suggest starting with those threads and looking through them, then using the search above with keywords such as "Nexus One" "android" etc... to see many, many others.

If you have a specific question after that.. feel free to ask .

Welcome to the Forums!

And here is a nice non-biased (ie. NOT found on a maemo forum.. lol) comparison of each:

Hey now, just because its not found here doesn't make it unbiased... there's just a higher probability that it will be biased in favor of the *non*-maemo device

Lol, but it'll be a lot less biased than a review done on a maemo forum (or android forum for that matter), and these guys review a ton of phones :P

The Mobiletechreview is biased because it's by Lisa Gade, who is a long time Java developer, and also an old Apple developer. Of course she is going to like a Javaesque development platform, for the same reason GNU/Linux developers are going to be biased towards Maemo. This is not to say don't read her review, but it's wise to know any reviewers background.

The GPS on the N900 is a lot better than that on the N97, in my experience
