I just found a new gadget. Admittedly it's not Linux, but it look pretty cool, not to mention the fact that it's like an iPhone on the Nokia N800 screen.
Here are some info.
Meizu M8, Chinese made.
ARM11 CPU
720x480
WinCE 6.0
3MP Camera
GSM & 3G phone
USB port
TV out & Line in/out

Nice screen - shame it's not 800x480 but 720x480 is pretty close!

Unfortunately it runs WinCE, but has the hardware to be a nice device and will probably best the N800 in several departments (email, video, audio) and with Opera Mobile 8.6 installed on this device it could be a better internet tablet than the Internet Tablet.

Nokia, time is running out!

You mean the Meizu has no WiFi? Oh dear, what a pile of cr@p! I didn't check the specs in detail but without WiFi (does it even have Bluetooth?) it's a bit of lame duck, which is a shame as the rest of the hardware seems pretty spot on. Yes, WinCE is a pile of cack but depending on what you want to do it (currently) does it better than OS 2007 (eg. email, video, audio and also PIM and data syncing).

Well, the ruler is not out yet.
According to the Meizu fan site, http://www.meizume.com/showthread.php?t=574
The company hasn't decide whether to have wifi integrated or not. If it does, it has a potential to be both n800 and iPhone killer. 720x480 is pretty close to 800x480, and it still play movie DVD resolution.

If they haven't decided on the hardware yet, that indicates it's at least 6 months away from production. It may well be competition for the "N900" by the time it's launched!

Yea, but when do you think iPhone is coming out. Not to mention they didn't say whether other stuff they already have engineering unit or not.

June 2007 - the hardware spec seems pretty nailed down and Apple have already signed up manufacturing partners. Apple seem a lot further along than Meizu.

I'm not knocking Meizu, just saying they've a long way to go before they can bring this product to market, and by then the iPhone will already have launched, and the iPhone may even be available outside of the US if Meizu don't get their product out until late 2007/early 2008. If Meizu are closer to the latter it's likely Nokia may be readying the "N900" (although I hope not - let's give the N800 time to stretch it's legs - mid to late 2008 would suit me better!)

I can careless if you knock the Meizu or not, I don't get paid either way. The reason I bring this up because. Well,
1. Apple iPhone is way overprice. The markup alone is like 50%. Considering Meizu is a Chinese company, the M8 could be a lot cheaper and probably unlock, as most cellphone in Asia are sold unlock.
2. Competition are good for consumer. Let's them duke it out. If I can get a Meizu M8 at 1/2 the price of the iPhone w/ 90% functionality of the iPhone, I'll definitely pick the M8. If somebody call me a cheap skate for that, that somebody deserve the Apple fanboy tag.

Althought the wifi is a huge consideration, but at the same time, the screen is 720x480 which they obviously intended to be a media player w/ phone functionality. By the time, if the 3G network price drop, then surfing on the 3G may not be that bad even if there is no wifi.

Update claims that the Meizu does have wifi, after all.
Then again, Engadget also thinks that the whole package looks "too good to be true", and they may not be wrong.

It's a wimmo 6, so that's practically a given.
