hey everyone.. sorry if i put this is the wrong section.. if so just guide me.. anyway here is my problem

i just got my phone here in UAE. i m able to log into skype n my contacts r pulled.. it even shows who r online n i can chat.. but the connection keeps dropping frequently n all contacts go offline n when i try to make a call it says "connection not established" i did create another account and logged in back to my original account.. also rebooted my phone.. still the same.. can someone help me.. by the way i am using gprs if that makes any diff..

Seem to remember reading something about the UAE blocking Skype, might have something to do with it?

GPRS is way too slow for any normal VoIP, even if it uses all the channels which is rarely a case. I'd say that the EDGE is an absolute minimum for VoIP...

I've never tried Skypeout myself so I cant comment on that.
However as of last week, Skype to Skype call have been working for me on Wifi as well as Data (2.5G-3.5G)
more recently though Skype hasnt been connecting, Im not sure if this is due to the "storm" we just had or not.

i m usin the 3G service.. i think that the storm could be it.. but under normal conditions u were able to make calls from the phone to the pc via 3G without any lag right..

here they blocked the website but the software works fine

you cant make VOIP calls via 3g service, its blocked in UAE, it works fine with wifi though,, i made skype to landline call to India via wifi,

thats good enough actually.. so i guess i gotta wait this "storm" out then .. are u using the etisalat or the du connection
