Im trying to install Canola2 on my phone and I have tryed everything to get this working. At first I tryed to install it from the app manager but i always get this error: conflict with libeina0. Well then I tryed to remove it from my phone by: apt-get remove libeina0 and it tells me that its not even installed. Well after that I tryed to download the .deb file from the browser and install it manually by: dpkg -i canola2...deb, but I get a long list of packages.

Can anyone help me with this?

Im still having problems. I got Canola installed but when i try to open it it just crashes to desktop. I tryed exec "canola" in terminal and it gave me this error: ValueError: No plugin found with filter 'SystemProperties'

Well, first of all, I hope you realize that it is in extras-devel, and that you should expect problems.

Is there a certain reason why you need Canola?

Two key reasons C2 is better than the stock player, which seems to have been created in a very lazy effort:

1. The random function of the stock player is about as random as weather in a vacuum, or dice with the same value on all sides.

2. There is no folder browse function.

Easily, the stock player on the N900 is the worst half-hearted' effort I have tried and that is even compared to cheap, $30 mp3 players you can buy in the impulse section at stores. At least even cheap players allow folder browse and the random actually works.

Sadly, stock player is about 20% more battery efficient, so there you go.

Seriously, how can you screw up a random function??? Mega Cartman level lame.

You could use Mediabox.

It's stable, and basically does the same functions as Canola2.

It's GUI isn't diamond quality like Canola's, but I'm pretty sure you can live with it.

Is Mediabox as cpu thrifty as the stock player?

Back during the Maemo 4 days, in my experience, Canola 2 was one of the slowest media players there, although it was the only one I could put up with.

Nokia Media Player

Startup Time: 3 Seconds 498 Milliseconds

Mediabox

Aesthetics: 7/10 - Flat, simplistic look. Still shows much of Hildon.

Ease of Use: 8/10 - Some unnecessary scrolling involved, application volume doesn't go with system volume. Stable. Portrait Mode ( ! )

Features: 10/10 - Folder browsing, can access off-device storage ( ! )

Customization: 5/10 - Since it still shows a lot of Hildon, the application themes need to be matched with an appropriate system theme, or else you get nasty looking color differences.

Overall Satisfaction: 7/10 - Very Stable, Portrait Mode is very welcome. Missing some of the snappiness you get with Canola, aesthetically unpleasing.

Canola 2

Aesthetics: 10/10 - Best looking user interface, and the snappiest experience available on any application I've used. (BlueMaemo's N900 variant is a close second)

Ease of Use: 8/10 - Very easy to use interface. Downsides are relatively common crashes, and the application volume is way loud (I have to keep it at a 1-3 to be bearable with system volume at 50%).

Features: N/A (10/10 N8x0) - Quite a load of useful features. However, there is a bug with typing in Canola on the N900, so...

Customization: N/A (10/10 N8x0) - Very customizable, especially with Canola Tuning. However, again, there is a bug with Settings that causes crashes quite often.

Overall Satisfaction: 7/10 - I want to give it a 10/10 for my experiences on the N8x0, but since this is about the N900, I have to give it a lower score because it is unstable, but very, very high potential when (if) it gets to stable extras.

Nokia Media Player

Aesthetics: 6/10 - Bland. End of story. If you're using a unprofessional theme, it makes it even worse.

Ease of Use: 6/10 - Audio is fine, although having to press a button to get to volume is a pain. Video sorting is absolutely botched, very hard to use on the go.

Features: 2/10 - Back to basics. Nothing special except Internet Radio, and that's turning mainstream pretty soon.

Customization: 1/10 - The only customization here is sorting. All visual customization comes from the system theme.

Overall Satisfaction: 3/10 - Good for basics, nothing much else. Useful only when stationary, don't even think about using this while exercising, or even walking.

Winner?

I would pick Canola 2 blindfolded, if it weren't for the bugs. So... I guess, Mediabox it is.

yes it was installed, still cant install canola2, after removing enna, and renistalling it, help??? anyone???
