Why is everyone on here so obsessed with merging threads? If someone starts a new thread that I find interesting, theres always someone slating them. Whats the goal here, to help people find what they need to know, or have 3 total threads with everything merged in..

If i use the search to try and find help.. Huge threads (like for example the Pr1.2 thread) always come up, and even if i find a thread that might have the answer im looking for its 50pages long and cant find in there what I need, at least not easily.

Or am I doing something totally wrong?

It's not an obsession, just a fun pasttime. Like knitting frog sweaters and bowling for soup.

But if you use Search effectively, the size of a thread is no issue. Have results returned by POST, not thread.

I would like to thank the moderators for cutting down on all of the ridiculous posts in this forum. Whether you do it through deletion or merging, thank you.

Sincerely,
Phono

A trick I use is search from Google. Usually I don't need to be site specific either. Just type what your looking for in Google and put N900 at the end of it. Usually the Maemo Talk forum pops a with a link to the post you need.

Use 'site:talk.maemo.org' in google with your searches and it will only return hits from maemo talk forum

Or just click "Power Search" in the side bar here and that'll take you to the Google-powered search page

(Have to say that I don't really understand why this has been relegated to a link hidden in the side-bar that nobody ever looks and why the big prominent search box displayed on all pages uses a different and completely useless search engine)

Thirty-eight more merges and I'll finally have enough points for the orange, maemo.org tea towel.

Thank you sir!

I never new it was there. The other search engine would need to be improved to be called useless.

I exagerate. Seriously though, the google method works way better IMO.
