Guys,

I am unable to upload my N900 to the lastest version.

It shows in my apps manager to download but when I do so, it says to connect to the PC using nokia PC Suite software and download using that software.

However, when I connect to the Nokia PC Suite software and try to update via the "software updater" it gives the message saying your phone already has the latest update.

For details please see the attached screenshot.

Can anyone advice how I can update my phone to latest PR 1.2 version or whatever it is?

Thanks for your help.

you need to clear out your rootfs to do the ota update i think you need about 58mb free, otherwise you can use the flasher utility if you do a power search there are plenty of guides.

Thanks for this info I just checked my rootfs and it shows 23.6 MB free.

How do I clear the root fs? How do I get the flasher utility?

It isn't space.. you don't need 58meg.. you need about 40 (I think the limit from the deb info is about 35meg).. the problem is very often dependencies..

remove stuff like gltron, tomatoes, wikitune, tux racer, stuff like that..

you need to remove all packages that rely on libgles1 (because it relies on libgles1-sgx-img which has a hard requirement for opengles-sgx-img-common)

Plus you need to remove packages that are eating your root space.

I upgraded with 43meg of root space free.. dependencies are usually the problem

you've not removed the app (or apps) that are causing the problem.. See this post on the Nokia forum.. I've refered many users to this and practically all have had upgrade success:

I am not sure what to do but I had removed some applications like Firefox which had 9+ MB and there was another supporting application from Mozilla for firefox that was 28MB so I removed them both.

I also removed the Go To Viewer (Document Viewer) software which was taking about 9MB or so.

However, when I checked the space in rootfs at the command line it still showed that the free space was only 23MB as before... and actually it was a few 100kb lesser after I performed these uninstallations.

When I checked it with Disk Checker utility, it also showed the same 22.4 MB free space left.

As I was reading to update software from command line by following the Flasher 3.5 update so I forgot about the checking disk space and followed the instructions given here

http://maemo.nokia.com/n900/tips/software-update/

It says switch of your N900 then press and hold the "U" key on the device and connect the device with USB to the PC. I did that and it says as long as you can see the USB cable on the top right hand side screen of your device it means the phone is in flashing mode. As I saw the USB Icon on the top right hand side of my N900 screen I have run the commands.

In the center it also shows the NOKIA name while it shows the USB on the top right hand corner.

The instructions say after 4min it should re-start your phone with an updated firmware. However, its been more than 4 mins and on the screen it still has NOKIA name in the middle and the USB icon on the top right hand corner.

It hasn't restarted yet. So what do I do now if it remains the same after a few more mins?

did the flasher command complete sucessfully? that is much more important.. if flasher said it finished sucessfully, unplug the phone, turn it off then back on
