I have attached an image of a new icon that has appeared in the status bar of nokia n900. i am not able to disable this as well. please help me out.

It 'cud' be the busy indicator for your IM/VoIP presence.

You can change your availability to Online, and you'll get a green dot in its place.

Is that the broken sync icon? Like if you are in the process of syncing MfE and the connection drops?

I have never tried to Sync any device

It's the icon of disabled wlan. If you have downloaded wlan on/off app, it disables wlan when off...
