If you are starting it from the desktop widget you can use "Calendar Home Widget" instead of the builtin one which has an option to select in which mode to start the Calendar app.

Or use the datetoday home widget as an application shortcut for the calendar application, which can open the calendar
app and has an option to choose which view to open
(month, week or appointments).

Thanks, I may try that. One thing is clear - Nokia don't care much about Maemo and its usability as a smartphone. They got our money, so what?

I have the Calendar Home Widget, but it does not show the task summary

N900 is not a smartphone, it's a mobile computer.

It's in fact very useful. What's wrong with it? I'm sure any issues you have, is not related to Maemo, it's related to you, and the fact that you might not know how to use it.

If you don't like Maemo, there are other operating systems you can install.

Right. And Santa Claus lives in the North Pole.

What's wrong with it?
Didn't you read the thread before jumping in? There is no setting for making the calendar app start with a particular view. Even the sorry excuse for a PIM on the S60vX devices have that setting.

If you know so much about how to use it why don't you give us the solution?

Great, the problem is not with applications, the problem is with USERS. Bad, bad users with their stupid requests!

Edit: I noticed the calendar widget does not display time for events, which is not that great. Shame on Nokie for not putting more effort into developing this essential application.
