I was setting up my N900 for backups, and while looking through the MyDocs directory, I found this:

Code:
-rw-r--r--    1 user     root         4096 Mar 30  2010 ._
It's a binary file, but I found strings in it such as:

Code:
Mac OS X
ATTR;
This resource fork intentionally left blank
Anyone know what it's for? Obviously, it is something to do with Mac, but files and directories named such obtuse things kinda creep me out, like someone is trying to hide something.

Thoughts?

Quite true. I think it may be something that ships on the EMMC image to allow you to connect more easily to the Mac. But since I have no macs, I just wanted a sanity check. Normally I connect only to Linux boxes, so it is connecting natively...But I do connect occasionally to one windows box at work and use the N900 as an external hard drive.

I'm thinking I can probably safely delete the file, but my filesystem got b0rked somewhere during the PR1.3 upgrade, so I'm a little leery about it.

It is a MacOSX resource fork.. its essentially a file that holds "info" about other files.. for example, it might hold the icon for a folder, or which application should open a file.. or where this file's icon should appear on the mac desktop

you can delete it, but your mac will re-create it next time you use usb mass storage mode..

failing that, just ignore it, it won't cause you any problems..

Macs don't work like other computers :P
