Hi,

I recently bought a used n900 and have been using it for a few weeks.

I messed around with and installed a few applications and things and it worked great until yesterday. My earpiece stopped working and I cannot hear anyone until I use the speaker phone. It was working fine until I installed htop and swappolube but I am not sure if one of this programs caused the problem or not.

So I tried re-flashing my device but it did not work at all and the earpiece still does not work.

Since I bought my phone used, I don't have a warranty with it so I took it apart. I tested the earpiece speaker by applying a small voltage to it and seeing if it would make a clicking sound when I touched the leads of the speaker and it did. So i think there's nothing wrong with the earpiece speaker.

So i think there might be a deeper issue with the hardware or software.

Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions on how to fix this?

Thanks

I've had this same problem and just got my N900 back from repair. I'm in the UK. When I took my N900 for repair, I didn't have a proof of purchase or anything else, so just because it's used doesn't necessarily mean that it's not under warranty.

They look at the serial number. You should be able to find something on the nokia website that will tell you whether or not your N900 is still under warranty. I went here http://www.nokia.co.uk/support/repair/repair/warranty

In the UK, you should be able to go to any carphone warehouse and they should be able to sort the problem out for you.

If you want to try some stuff from the terminal to re-route the audio output, have a look at some of my previous posts on related threads.

The problem was intermittent for me to start with and, eventually, became permanent. I was pretty sure it was a software issue but I ran out of things to try and wasn't getting anywhere. I've had the N900 back for a week now and have always had earpiece audio since getting it back, so I recommend you do the same.
