There seems to be quite a few options with media players for the nokia n800.
Which one's do you guys use the most and why ?
Also I was just wondering if there are any where I can create a playlist, and it will play the mp3's. Like winamp. So for I have to click on them individually , and gets to be sort of a pain.
Thanks

I'm using Canola (front end of the default media player) for both MP3s and videos.
I transcode videos using iriverter 0.16.

I use mplayer for my videos, kilikali for music, and canola for audio books. All three are great, IMO.

I really liked Canola, but I deleted it because it insists on doing its own (loooong) thing with a memory card everytime one is inserted.

Mplayer is for videos (which is the reason Canola was dropped). It's almost perfect now; the only thing it still needs is a "resume last movie" function, which the developer claims won't be hard to add.

I'll probably give kilikali (or maybe UKMP) a go, but I still have a lot of Galactica episodes (the original one, of course!) to watch.

the biggest cons with UKMP and mplayer is their scanning the cards each time they start - sooo annoying

there should be something in between canola (which I agree is annoying too) and this approach..probably give kilikali (or maybe UKMP) a go, but I still have a lot of Galactica episodes (the original one, of course!) to watch.[/QUOTE]

at least Mplayer doesn't insist on scanning when it's not running.

I might add an option of skipping scanning to future versions. Imagine this:

You click on ukmp.
Black /white screen open.
Then a question:
Would you like to:
Scan the system for music Use old library?
User clicks on scan, it'll scan the system and update your library. Click on use old, it'll just load the covers and be done with it.

Sounds like a good plan to you?

Out of curiosity, how long does it take you to get to cover screen in ukmp?
Out of that, how long does it take for it to move from the scanning text to the mode where it is showing one cover at a time at the bottom of the screen?

Because scanning is the first part and the part where it's showing one icon at a time, is the part where it's creating the mirror effects to the covers (and stuff like that, which takes time).

Also, I would like to know how big your music library is.

i like your ukmp very much...youve probally heard this before but is there any way you can actually make it a real full out media player insted of just a music player with support for pic, vid, and music. Reply would be very much appreciated.

- mplayer for videos (obviously)

- canola for music. it seems to have a hard time with -some- of my id3 tags ("[unknown]" artist/album anyone?) which gets on my nerves quite often.

- default media player for music (whenever i feel like looping the same song) and sometimes podcasts (it isn't easy to seek tho, maybe i should switch to canola for that)

also got ukmp but it doesn't really suit me, what i want is editable playlists.

If you ever had a look at the application installer after installing UKMP, it says mediacenter. It kind of gives away my plan of global domination. I've been planning of adding video support as soon as the music player is in a bit better shape.

I was planning on going the following steps: Music -> Images -> Video. However, at the moment, I feel that a better roadmap would be music -> video -> images. Anyway, if you feel otherwise, let me know.

At the moment, I would like to implement music queue and file deletion to UKMP. When these are complete, I will launch version 1.2. They are minor improvements, but I hope they are welcome ones. If you have small tune-up ideas for the next version, let me know.
