N770 is no longer supported. Go for a N800 if you can.

Indeed congrats,

I am an owner of an N800 but as SeRi@lDiE states there's still plenty of grassroots support for the 770.

Awesome price by the way, I wish I could woot from the UK, sfaik I cannot.

Welcome welcome

Search these forums, visit http://maemo.org/ add some repos http://maemo.org/community/wiki/appl...nrepositories/ you'll probably want the Internet Tablet OS 2006 repos (scroll down that page for them) and start a dabblin.

Gratz

fantastic purchase. great device for an unbelievable price. i still think it's better than the n800 in the overall handling... sturdier, looks better, feels better and it has the hard cover. you'll love it. go install the software you need.

It's a very good price. If I didn't already have one, I would buy it immediately. A bargain! 770 is much better than n800 for some uses (e.g. reading ebooks).

No, for the most part it is true, the hacker edition by its name alone pretty much says that this product is no longer supported by Nokia. You wouldn't call it Hacker edition otherwise.

But with that said, the 770 still has some legs under it and at that price is a great buy!

You guys realy dont like to do your research!

Nokia 770 Development to Continue
Ari Jaaksi, on his latest post on his blog announces that Nokia has decided to continue with the bug fixing and release of newer ‘Hacker Edition’ firmware for the Nokia 770 Internet Tablet. Quim Gil writes on his blog:

We will keep working on the IT OS 2007 Hacker edition for the 770. We will go through IT OS 2006 bugs submitted in maemo’s Bugzilla, trying to solve at least the most relevant and the ones already fixed in the official IT OS 2007. We will release the fixes in updated images, all of them unofficial and to be used at your own risk. We can’t make any promise on performance levels or specific bug fixes, but hopefully you will be happier than now with the results.

Quim Gil also apologizes:

This is our goal, and sometimes we need to rush in order to achieve the milestones in the way. The 770 support while delivering the N800 on time suffered from one of these sprints. A mistake was made, our apologies. We are trying to ammend it and learn from it. Please be patient with this ongoing project, and expect progress from our side around the topics that concern you most.
And from Ari Jaaksi's Blog

770 feedback
Howdy,

Just a short one this time.

We've been receiving a lot of valuable feedback on our 770 hardware from you. Based on it we decided to continue fixing bugs on 770 and release new software for it. This work will happen on our "hacker version" branch. We'll do our best to make it usable for you.
HAPPY?!? I am

Sorry, but simply put that means unsupported no matter how you read that! If I call Nokia support and tell them I have the OS 2007 Hacker's edition, what do you think their response will be????

It seems to me the device is neither officially supported or officially unsupported. I think a more proper term would be unofficially supported. Not many companies continue to fix something they no longer support nor do they continue to support something they no longer fix.
