Download SSH Client and Server from the repos. Set up the admin password for the N900 during installation.

Next download WinSCP from the internet (free) and set it to connect to your N900 IP Address. Use the password you set up during installation to connect.

Voila; full root access to your N900 filesystem over WiFi from your home desktop / laptop. If you need any further help post back.

Code:
sudo gainroot
apt-get --purge openssh
apt-get --purge openssh-client
apt-get --purge openssh-server
reboot
Then re-install and input new password. Only, don't forget it this time eh?

Type in (as root):

Code:
passwd root

That's the root password though vi_, not the SSH pass....? SSH has a standalone password rather than running from the root pass, or am I somehow confused...?

if you are talking about ssh password , you can try installing mad developer , as during it's installation process , it will pop a dialog to configure password for ssh .
