i know the whole entire back story regarding maemo vs symbian blah

but i can seriously see this swipe ui taking off in the future. Nokia should had taken a page from apple's play book an just patent/copyrighted the design.

This has already been discussed in great depth on these Boards.

As for "swipe UI taking off", you could say that? There is already a list of OS's using it and elements of swipe...

WebOS (Palm pretty much made the concept)
Maemo5 (MicroB)
S40 (Asha series)
BB10 (also using enyo-esque sliding panels)
Jolla OS (expected)
ICS+Jellybean (various elements)

There are also user-mods such as zephyr for iOS and webOS interface for Android ICS.

So who should nokia sue first?

Chrome for android too.

Also why sue? It's always bad for the users. Nokia would hace taken swipe to the grave with them. Now we'll see it to live another day, be it in BB, JollaOS, Nemo or whatever.

It was a good UI addition as opposed to the hardware and software buttons that tend to be inconsistent. But to be honest, it being BlackBerry with it, means the UI elements that we like the most have only been picked up by yet another underdog that's lost a lot of marketshare in the last few years.

The UI doesn't make that much of a difference now, unfortunately.

First, I think we are all must see the difference between "the common swipe", and "the swipe on N9's UI".
