Is there a limitation in Harmattan (possibly also Maemo) about the maximum number of possible/recognized devices/partitions of mmcblk0?

I have repartitioned my N9's mmcblk0 to hold
p1 MyDocs 39GB
p2 rootfs 4GB
p3 home 4GB
and
p4 extended 16GB
with
p5 empty 4GB (not yet decided)
p6 Linux 4GB
p7 Linux/ext4 4GB
p8 Linux 2GB
p9 Linux 2GB

sfdisk tells me everything is fine (as above).
But listing
ls /dev/mmcblk0*
only shows me 8 devices
mmcblk0
mmcbk0p1
...
mmcblk0p7

So there seems to be a limit of 8 devices?

I have formatted /dev/mmcblk0p7 as ext4 and can mount it (size: 4GB).
But it seems, I cannot access p8 and p9 this way ...

Someone to confirm? Or help me out?

You have 7 partitions and 7 devices, so what is your problem?

But that is not the case.
Both p8 and p9 are size of 2GB.
But when I mount p7 (which is 4GB), then I would get a 2GB sized partition according to your algorithm, But indeed it is sized 4GB as expected. And formatted, whereas the others not yet.
And: even an extended and also an empty partition gets shown in /dev/, or? As it is show/confirmed from outpout of sfdisk (/dev/mmcblk0p9 2GB Linux partition)..

The best way to see which is which, is to install cfdisk if exist in n9 repo.

Isn't that just a limitation for systems that simply bring up /dev without a /dev node helper like udev?

This problem would easily be solved by mknod.

mmcblk0 is just a block device after all.
You could rebuild Harmattan kernel with GPT support, and convert it to GPT, and have a field day.

No, the limit is hard coded in the mmc block driver so mknoding more devices won't help without also patching the kernel mmc block driver for MMC_BLOCK_MINORS and setting it to a larger than default value (or running a newer kernel that doesn't need patching, of course, but you'd still need a custom compile with a larger than default MMC_BLOCK_MINORS value).
