November is here, and our photo competition theme for the month is "motion".

Like the 2 most recent themes, motion presents a challenge to the cameraphone. Limited light gathering capability necessitates longer exposures, blurring moving objects. And slow (and sometimes unpredictable) focusing also make it a trick to catch a moving subject. But challenges seem to inspire, so lets use it.

Motion can be whatever you want it to be. The most obvious interpretation to me is a moving subject. But perhaps it's the camera that's in motion. Perhaps an artful blur provides evidence of it, or perhaps something stopped in the middle of an action is motion frozen in time. Perhaps it's an illusion or a metaphor . . .

Same rules (copy-pasta from before):

Photos must be taken during this month (after theme is announced?)
Photos must be taken by the posting member
Photos must be taken with a camera phone
Users post only one photo per entry
Users can change the entry only once
Users must name the phone they used (software would be nice too?)

Last three days of this month are for voting

Have fun and maybe amaze your online friends!

Unfortunately no photo to show...yet. But the other day I was traveling in western Brazil and saw a giant beetle - a couple of inches long and wide beast. Scary thing! As the beetle was slowly walking along I naturally tried to make it my "motion" photo for the month. Easier said than done with the N9..and perhaps my limited skills. I was so focused on getting a pic with my N9 for the competition that I totally forgot that my DSLR was in my backpack...

So in the end no photo for the competition and not even a memory. Just another lost opportunity.

Next: Going hunting for hummingbirds...

Nope :-) This one had partially green metallic color in the back. A few years ago in the Amazon I did see the biggest fly I have ever seen. It was lying dead on the street in Rurrenabaque, Bolivia. First I thought it was a bird - like a sparrow or similar. But it was a fly - close to the size of my hand...

As a side note: the author of The Lost World a.k.a Jurassic park got his inspiration for the book near Rurrenabaque, in the Madidi reserve. The Bolivian government just gave oil and gas exploration licenses in the same park to a few international companies.

Ok, I have to attend since we can't have a competition with only one participant. That is simply no fun!

Name: Alien attacks the day moon
Dimensions: 480 x 640
Shot: 1/125 sec. f/2.2 4.15mm(zoom)
ISO: 25
Device: iPhone 6s Plus

To give you some background...
Earth(me and the bird) moving at speed 107,000 km/h through the solar system, at the same time Moon is moving 3,683 km/h. Meanwhile, I'm walking in about 3 km/h while taking the photo and the bird might flying at a speed of 23 km/h...To add some complexity to it all. The light traveling at the speed of light...1080 million km/h

Oh dear, it is the end of the month, isn't it.

OK, here is my entry. There is no way it could compete with or even compare to the outstanding awsomness of Dave's photo, but it is the bestg I could muster.

Taken with (and posted from) my N900. I tried with the Jolla first but the results were absolutely appalling.

Whole month, no messages...

I had quite angry virus Nephropathia epidemica which almost melted my brain. Another option was to die.. or heal...

Lucky me... I'm back again...

So little time to get any good picture but here is one quick...

Camera is still N9 and software cmdCam

Are you serious? Never heard about that virus but it sounds pretty ugly. We are honored to have you back in the game again. Stay safe.
