thanks a lot!
it's fixed now.

edit: we should start to think about how we will distribute the donated money..

Give it to me and I would be fine.

I liked the last years solution. Gave the money only to people that haven't won something like a device, a flight or a car with MeeGo-IVI inside.
The Community Donations are not that hight and a 300$ Device from a Vendor will always be a more expensive prize compared to a 40$ Money donation. So distribute the Money only to place 2 and 3 would be okay for me. If we have enought money we could gave place 4 also something like last year. (I liked this solution a lot with my small 4th placed contribution)

Several Developers liked my idea, but no reaction from you, zehjotkah. So I guess you have thought about it and decided that this is not possible. Am I right? Or have we not enought prizes?

Here is my "additional" suggestion:

Perhaps, if we able to, we could run at the end during the voting a second vote, all applications together and only the developers are allowed to vote. They are not able to vote for their own Application. But they have enought background knowledge to see how much effort a application took or not.
This is a seperate vote, and outside the contest. There shouldn't be a normal price as in the contest. And also no sponsored flight. Only a appreciation from the other programmers that knows how hard it is to create a good application and perhaps a symbolic prize. Perhaps a strange Device, to develop new ideas and applications with. Something "like" this: Sony Ericsson LiveView

Perhaps you're able to organize a additional device. This could be the prize for the Developers appreciate Developers vote at the end of the contest.

I'm sure. Simple but shiny ports wont have a chance at a developers vote. Only the really hard stuff could resist.
Edit:
A german Link to a Device, similar to the Device from Sony Ericsson, but from Texas Instruments and more stylish: Meta Watch

I think I forgot it...

I meant how we'll distribute the donated money. I think we should just distribute it to the 4th place...

Yes I have read your question. I would second the solution from last year. I just thought it was a good moment to point you at my old post...

The solution from last year was to distribute the money among the second and third places.
This year I would propose to distribute the money among the fourth places only, as we have
- already great prizes for the first three places
- as of now less money
- as of now less submissions

I hope the last two points will still change, though.

Okay, I understand you points. As far as I know was the money last year spread over the second, third and fourth place. But you're right. The donations are not that hight as last year.
Perhaps some programmers are waiting until they have something ready to distribute. Perhaps they are afraid to show it now and nobody is interested at the end of june?

But a very present fact is bugging us this year. The Community was last year a lot stronger and more euphoric. I hope something could stop M$...

Donations among the fourth places is okay if we have enought for place 1 to 3.

Yep you're correct Helmuth, thats what we did The Nokia/Linux foundation prize was a lot more valuable than what the 1st place would have been, so we felt it was better to spread the collected bounty out to more people. However i remember not everyone was happy with this arrangement, in particular one of the low points for me was that one of our members (Gary) was unhappy that his donation would be used in this way (he felt strongly that the 1st place winner should also get a share of the bounty). But he's probably forgotten all about it now, so nobody remind him It's would be a good idea to get this confirmed asap though so people will know exactly how their donation will be used.

In regards to the 1st place prizes from the last competition, there was some confusion as to how our winners could claim their trips/handsets, and also that some of the winners had to spend money first to book flights etc and have it reimbursed later. It would be brilliant if not only the prizes are nailed down confirmed but the process for the winners to claim them is known in advance of the end date (if possible). Takes the worry out of it for everyone, that includes the organizers too! I remember last time reading a few worried posts from various people and really not being able to do anything about it to help them myself. But in the end everything worked out alright

But you're right. The donations are not that hight as last year.

Agreed, a lot of the developers from last time have moved on. Having said that, a lot of the entries for the previous competition came in the final few weeks so I'd still hope for a small avalanche towards the end

From what i can tell, a lot of the buzz is really coming from what remains of the maemo.org side. Is there much buzz from meego.com or the ex-Moblin guys? I am a member of meego.com but in truth I rarely visit there. I'd be interested to hear how much they have gotten behind the competition,

Part of the problem appears to be that there isn't enough developers out there with MeeGo devices to work on, on the other hand Intel has literally handed out thousands of MeeGo netbooks/tablets over the past year. If we could get a small fraction of these guys to enter the competition (even as beginners) it would be a great boost. zehjotkah did his bit at the recent MeeGo freeday announcing the competition to the attendees just before they picked up their free hardware, I hope they listened and will take the time to repay Intel's kindness with a quick app of any description/quality.

From twitter there doesnt seem to be that many developers I know with MeeGo/Qt devices to work on, other than the N900. Most of these have moved onto Android rather than followed the natural path to MeeGo. I can also see that there are journalists who have received 5-6 MeeGo devices from attending various meetings and conferences, but who have no intention of entering the competition or even programming on the device ever. I suspect I might have bid for a few of them on ebay recently If i was working for Intel in charge of distributing devices to the community, I'd have suggested reaching out to the developers from the last competition and, if they were interested in the platform, giving them a tablet/notebook pre-loaded with MeeGo to work on and a link to the comp wiki page. But then again, Im biased Has anyone reached out to the previous entrants to make sure they are aware of the new competition and to ask if they are thinking of entering this time?

There also seems to be a lot of Intel AppUp competition's running, i fear we may be competing with them a little for the same developers.

With MeeGo conf around the corner, in the next few weeks we may see a new explosion in MeeGo interest. Hopefully zehjotkah and others will be able to get the word out amongst the attendees somehow, particularly the developers in the audience. I recommend hanging out in the hack spaces after dark, look for the very drunk people

Having said all I said, I haven't entered so I need to take a look at myself. Im sure I can squeeze out an app or two over the next few weekends, if only I can think of some ideas!

Donations among the fourth places is okay if we have enought for place 1 to 3.
Agreed As long as we have something substantial for 1-3 (prizes, share of bounty, whatever) then it doesnt hurt to spread it out a bit further to 4th. In truth there's not much left when it gets to 4th place, but the winners seemed very appreciative last time

Donation update:
30€ by OVK

Thanks a lot!

There are some new submissions at the submission site, too.
http://competition.meetmeego.org/

You can also see now, who has already submitted the app to the official site and who not: http://wiki.maemo.org/MeeGo_Coding_C...1#Participants
(and therefore who is taking part at the compatition and who not)

edit: as a response to kojackers questions regarding Intel ExoPC Tablet:
Normally nobody should get more than one device. I've seen some guys who tried to get more than one, but they failed because we have digital lists with the names and addresses of the recipients.. btw. those were always bloggers, not a single developer tried to get more.
yesterday we had the "MeeGo Hack Sonntach" (MeeGo Hacking Sunday in german slang) where we invited those who got an ExoPC at the last MeeGo Freeday as part of the coding competition. We were about 20 people and you should see some really cool MeeGo Tablet Apps during the next few weeks.

I will second that.

I'm very interestend in the MeeGo platform, I contributed last time with 1 application and I'm contributing currently to this competition with 2 applications. I hope I will get 3 ready until the end of June. One of those should be easily portable to MeeGo Handset and Tablet. Perhaps I could rewrite my DreamRemote in C++/Qt, too. The interface could benefit from QML. But without a Device I'm unable to test and develop for it...

Sadly Berlin is to far away for me. So I couldn't attend to the several MeeGo events.
