Hey folks. I have fallen victim to a broken USB port. It sucks. Right now I am looking to back up my contacts/SMS's to the micro SD card. Is this possible.

Also...

I have titan's kernel and Nitdroid installed. Should I take the time to uninstall them?

Plus..

I live in Canada so I am going to have to use a mail forwarding service because nokia doesn't support the N900 in Canada.

I called the place listed in this thread.

250 Dundas Street West Unit 106
TORONTO
Ontario
M5T 2Z5
CANADA
Phone: 416 - 979 - 8848

i hope this can help you guys

They said that they can probably fix it for $40 if the soldering is still in tact. Any reccomendations. Am I better off going through Nokia + Forwarding Service?

whoa, dude, i tried going to Ming Wireless the hour i got my USB port broken last march, then the technician looked at the phone, and said "No. i can't do it."

im not sure if it's the same issue as you but you can try. If not, either send the phone back to Nokia or buy an external charger dude.... and some extra batteries.

myself i messed up booting so i cannot connect my usb port to my PC so i cant flash. bricked..

The thread is a bit old but it might help people that will come to look here for help. My micro usb broke too and I am post warranty. I am in Toronto too and I managed to get my N900 fixed.

I first went to Ming Wireless, the place mentioned above. Left my phone for 2 hours and came back. They said they could not do it because the pins were off the mother board. Since they were a bit snarky and busy, I assumed they did not try very hard so I went to another small shop that is by my place. The person there was super nice and he fixed it ! He said he spend an afternoon on it. Here are the contact information:

International Cellular
1296 Bloor Street West
Toronto, ON, M6H 1N9
Phone: (1) 416 532 2421

He had another N900 there that he said he could not fix it because the port had ripped off things from the motherboard so I would advice to bring the phone in as soon as the usb port starts acting out.

Clubberlang:

Should you decide to go the way of having the set repaired in the States, the following might be helpful:
I did exactly that, and - as you know - needed a US address.
I used
US Address:
3909 Witmer Road
Niagara Falls NY 14305
E-mail: info@usaddressinc.com
http://www.usaddressinc.com
Tel: 716-298-1822
Fax: 716-298-5502

They charged me $ 5.00 for their service, and of course I had to drive to Lewiston (Niagara Falls) NY to pick up the unit.
But, the repairs were free (under warranty).
