Rumor says Nokia is going to release a device with the N900 processor clocked at 1 ghz. If so, is it time for a chorus of protest from this site warning Nokia that this is unsafe? That's what happened when users here started overclocking.

[citation needed]
If they do this even with binned 3430's expect Nokia's users to be burned literally. Also, inb4 silicon damage.

It's possible it's not the 3430 but just another omap3, such as the 36xx. But, where did you see that rumor?

lol. I'm running mine at 1.1GHz. =P

It seems not even Koajwujwer123 who claims to have the phone in his hands is sure about what CPU it uses. (no xterminal to check either)

But yeah, nobody knows or can't say what it is even if they do know.
I can only hope it is using STE U8500 SoC. EVen if it is, I'll overclock it.

I overclocked my SGS2 from 1.2GHz to 1.5GHz as well. lol
Made the fastest Android phone even faster. woohoo.

Well 3430 is (was) available in 500MHz version overclockable to 600 (in N900), and a model overclockable to 720MHz that came later.

36xx is available with 1GHz overclocks, a sibling to what could be expected in N900+1 is used in BeagleBoard XM..

So no, Nokia isn't overclocking N900 processor any higher than the 600MHz it's already at.

Probably same core as beagleboard xM.

In my opinion, adding more RAM is much more useful than CPU overclocking.

And the very reason the 900 is so slow because lack of ram not faster cpu.

Heh this wont be happening.
OMAP3 running at 600 and 1ghz isn't same thing. Sure some of us are lucky and can lower the voltage, overclock our OMAP3430 to 1.1ghz what not.

But the chip lets say on Nokia's nonqwerty Harmattan device running at A8- cortex 1ghz would be using OMAP3, OMAP36xx that's scale is 45nm(compared to 65nm on other OMAP3 chips).

OMAP36xx isn't just overclocked OMAP3430. OMAP3430 is running on TI's given maxium clock speeds already.
