I often want to grab something from a webpage - something I want to make a note about, or say copy an rss feed URL to feed to podsync.

Is there any way to do this? There's select all, but that's not much use.

I'm not sure how widely this applies, but in OS2008 you can kind of double-tap and drag to select. Then bring up the menu (or press&hold) and pick 'copy'.

Double tap does select a word, and if I hold the stylus I get a dialogue box with copy and help, select help, it says I should be able to drag to select... but I can't.

Ah! It's all in the timing. The trick is to tap then tap-drag, rather than tap tap wait till it highlights.

Thanks!

I feeeeelll a future video tutorial coming up!!!

Maybe?

Highlighting and copying web page text seemed such an intuitive thing in other OS's that I found it very frustrating not being able to do this so casually on the N800.

What's even worse is when you do it by accident the first time, then can't repeat it when you try later.

For a good time, ask the iPhone users how intuitive copy & paste is on their system...

I think it might be easier if some alternate system was used. For example, tap-tap marks the beginning of an area, and tap-tap marks the end. Then a menu lets you select cut or copy.

The problem with tap-tap drag is that it only works about 50% of the time for me.

I think I hear my wife grumbling, something about how her iPhoney ate her long email message; save, what's that?

Thanks for bringing this topic up! This has been a big headache for me and now I can finally select snippets of text! Yeah!

The odd quirk I'm noticing is that I have to tap-tap (in the same exact spot), then very quickly start to drag. Otherwise I get a screen pan (large newspaper's w i d e format website). When I have a screen pan with the stylus, I have to tap-tap-tap, then a quick drag to get it to work. Sometimes 2 taps, other times three taps. Far from an ideal UI, but much better experience than my wife has with her "pretty" (lipstick on a pig) UI interface.

Here's another nuance to marking text in web pages:

Tap-tap-drag seems to fairly consistently mark complete words.

But, if you do it just right, tap-tdrag (i.e. second tap hits the screen and with no pause, starts moving) will mark text by the character.
