Original finnish quote is not very clear at what it means.
Title that is: There's no return to MeeGo
Implies that what they where talking was that MeeGo does not return as main smartphone platform and i have never expected anything else.
Helsingin Sanomat does not have direct quote either from Elop. I did send them(that newspaper) email yesterday asking about this.

Though i agree about your comment that this guy saying this does not unfortunately prove anything to one direction.

I agree, that's what made my suspicoin.

There is no direct quote from Elop. It's only the opinion of the author.
By the way, the only thing I can remember Elop saying is that this is the only MeeGo phone this year.

The Telenor carrier here in Norway is going crazy, I mean really batshit crazy, they were super quick to contact Nokia and make an exclusive deal to get it out in September and reserve the rights to be the only supplier of the phone throughout 2011.
They relly want this phone out on the market asap.

i previously wondered if you can disable the swipe when using games.
Check out the video from 2:50 - 3:00 and you'll see he has to pause it to swipe it off. so looks like apps/games can override the swipe control.
Yes, quite right... I didn't actually notice that because I never tried to swipe off while in flight. Swiping works at every other time (e.g. in stations).

As already discussed on the other thread if this is not correct why hasn't Elop come straight out and said so?

Is anybody seriously now going to risk $600+ on a phone which is not even supported by Nokia?

What seems odd is that it wasn't just a low profile release of the N9 phone without Elop being present, unless part of the deal with Intel was a senior member of Nokia had to be present when the first meego phone was released.

Well, the saga of the N9 keeps getting more and more interesting. I'm a bit slow I guess, but was starting to warm up to the idea of getting one. It does look like it was thoughtfully designed although you can't please everyone. Slightly old HW but with age perhaps less buggy. No HWKB but maybe with BT or some other approach it could be something like a dockable unit in a wallet. Open up the wallet and you find a keyboard inside so you can happily type away, then take out the N9 from the wallet and it's like a phone/tablet. That works for me. There is some interest in easy Debian which would dramatically enhance its utility for me although I do not know if any of the Debian programs are compiled for this chipset. But that would come if there is interest. The N9 is still green and offers many challenges and opportunities for developers so I can see how they could be excited about it (plus the option to get the HWKB version for developers which makes me envious as I am not a developer even though I help design codes that run on supercomputers, Oh the irony of it all. To have such computing power yet be forsaken by ones true love! Just kidding. A little levity to ease the pain... ) Then there is the issue of future support from NOKIA which is rightfully in question. Well, alot can happen between now and September when the device, as I understand, is to be released to the public. Perhaps that is the good news as we can see how things shake out before making a purchase. Hopefully there will not be a lot more bad news...

Yes, a lot of people will, and how can you say a handset that isn't even on the market yet is unsupported? At the least it will have better support than the N900, considering it's wider target audience.

Support is only useful for the short term anyway, people upgrade at the least every 24 months (two years). I think we'll probably get at least a whole year of "support" for the N9, if not more as they are unlikely to release another MeeGo product until Windows Phone is stabalised in the market.

Just wondering say the WP7 Nokia device came out with better specs than the N9 would it be possible to hack it and get MeeGo running on there somehow. Or is it impossible ?

It is more than likely impossible. Due to DRM, etc. But I guess we'll know when "sea ray" is out. I wont be buying one even if that is the case to prove a point, tbh.

Even if it is possible, it would mean you have to buy a WP7 device first. No way I would ever do it.
